Mass of Christian Burial for Carolyn Sue Hendrick, 70, of Lufkin, will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Friday, January 3, 2014 at St. Andrew the Apostle Catholic Church, with Father Joe Kannampuzha, M.S., celebrant. Inurnment will follow in the Garden of Memories Memorial Park.
Ms. Hendrick was born July 14, 1943 in Clarksville, Arkansas, the daughter of the late Dortha Syble (Wilhelm) and William Truman Moore. She passed away Sunday, December 29, 2013 in a local hospice facility.
Ms. Hendrick was a retired minister. She attained her Associate of Science Degree from Angelina College, her Bachelor of Science in Education from Stephen F. Austin State University, and Master of Divinity from Southern Methodist University. Her ministerial career was preceded with several years of teaching. She taught reading, art, and music at St. Patrick Catholic Church, then was a Certified Language Therapist at St. Cyprian's Episcopal School. As an Ordained Elder in the United Methodist Church - Texas Conference, Reverend Hendrick served as pastor of First United Methodist Church in Big Sandy, First United Methodist Church in Newton, Winterfield United Methodist Church in Longview and Chapelwood United Methodist Church in Houston. She was the recipient of the Denman Evangelism Award and the Bishop's Award. As a religious writer, she published 'A Little Light Please', a newspaper column and 'S.T.E.P.S', a church growth plan.
Survivors include her daughter, Dortha Hendrick Jackson and husband Stephen of Diboll; son, Richard Alan Hendrick of Lufkin; sisters, Billie Anna Patterson and husband Bill of Van Buren, Arkansas, Patricia Garrett and husband Robert of Alma, Arkansas and Betty White and husband Ronald of Lufkin; brothers-in-law, Max Hendrick III and wife MaDonna of Houston and Dr. Edward Hendrick and wife Jeannie of Colorado; grandson, Stephen Paul Jackson and wife Cortney and their daughter, Macee Jo of Canyon; granddaughter, Charlotte Sue Jackson of Dallas; and a number of nieces, nephews, and other family members.
In addition to her parents, Ms. Hendrick was preceded in death by her husband, Richard Gary Hendrick; mother-in-law, Enid W. Hendrick; and brother, William Truman Moore, Jr.
Ms. Hendrick's family wishes to extend a special thanks to Paul, Katie, Roy, Carlita, Frank and Rose of Hospice in the Pines, Father Joe at St. Andrew the Apostle Catholic Church, Lina at Quality Care; and Dr. Sean Moran.

My condolences to Carolyn's family. I was in seminary with her, we took a class together on the Gospel of Mark. My favorite memory is that she always brought popcorn to class!
