Catherine Peck Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Nov. 26, 2010.
Peck, Catherine Lee Ann. It is with broken hearts that we announce the unexpected passing on November 22, 2010 of a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother ("Cath") daughter, sister, friend, and enthusiastic dancing partner.

The daughter of Helen (Mickey) and Bill Degen, Cathy was born in Halifax on September 15, 1951.

Cathy was proud of the fact that while raising her three young daughters, she busted her butt and obtained her Bachelor of Science and her Bachelor of Home Economics from Mount Saint Vincent University in Halifax. She then went on to obtain her Masters in Adult Education from the University of New Brunswick. She worked as a Consumer Consultant for Coop Atlantic in Moncton from 1981 to 1997.

Prior to moving back to Nova Scotia, Cathy and her husband Peter owned and operated the equestrian centre, "Horsefeathers" for many years in Salisbury, New Brunswick. She was famous for her yearly barn dances held at Horsefeathers and for her warm hospitality.

Besides her family, Cathy's joy and passion in life was dancing. She taught at Jane Edgett's School of Dance. She was also a volunteer dance instructor with a seniors group in Lower Sackville and an instructor at Dancetime at Port Williams.

She was also a very talented seamstress and took great delight in creating costumes for her grandchildren and nieces and nephews.

She travelled to Greece, Spain, Hawaii, Russia, Cuba, the UK and was looking forward to going on many more trips with her husband, Peter.

Cathy is survived by her husband Peter, daughters Nichelle Peck (Shelly Pike), Sandra LeBlanc (Ron), Karin Peck; grandchildren Joshua, Kaneisha and Rori. She is also survived by her brothers Terry Degen (Carmel), Stephen Degen (Cheryl); sisters Shaun Degen (Alvin Burnard), Ruth MacKenzie (Tom), Kelly Miller (Alan) and Maureen Krauch (Fritz), as well as many nieces and nephews.

Cathy was predeceased by her nephew, Evan Matthews.

Visitation will take place Saturday, November 27, from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Mattatall's Funeral Home. A celebration gathering will be held Sunday, November 28, from 2:30 to 4:30 at St. James United Church Hall.

Donations can be made to the charity of your choice.

Dear Peter and family,

Our most sincere condolences to you all at this very sad time. The news of Cathy's passing came as a real shock, as we had enjoyed chatting with her just several days earlier at the NS Museum.

May memories of wonderful times together sustain you through this difficult period.

Dear Peter and Family, Please accept my deepest sympathy. Cathy was and remains one of my favourite people. She had a way of touching people's core and getting the best from them. I am fortunate to have known her, and my thoughts and prayers are with you all. She will never be forgotten. Jan Keirstead, Riverview, N.B.

My thoughts are with you Peter and Catherine's family, as you cope with your loss. I know that the many people who came in contact with Catherine at the studio were touched by her smile and her fun loving character. We will all miss her presence. Catherine and I didn't always agree, but we agreed on not agreeing and continued on. Catherine's dance family will not forget her.

It is with a heavy heart that we send our deepest sympathy to the family. Catherine was one of our dance instructors at Edgett and was always so full of energy we hoped that with enough practice one day we might able to keep up with her. We will miss her sunny smile and unending patience.
