CHARLES G. AKNIN Born in Algiers, Algeria Dec. 1, 1933, passed away Feb. 20, 2008, after a long and valiant battle with cancer. He was the youngest son of Isaac and Emilie Aknin. He is survived by Blanche, his wife of 55 years; his 3 children, Julianne, David and Jean-Claude (Trish) Aknin and his adored grandchildren: Stuart, Rachel, Amanda, Tyler, Jason and Haley Aknin. He is also survived by his sisters, Raymonde Singley (Roy) and Julie Ehrenberg; his brother Joseph Aknin (Andree), his sisters-in-law Rose and Monique, wives of his late brothers Andre and Marcel; and his sisters-in-law Marcelle Gaillant (Charles) and Mireille Sanchez (Robert). He was a painting contractor for over 40 years, well known on the Peninsula. Charles was known as "Chacha" to some, "Charlie" to most of us and in addition to being "dad" and "grandpa", he was "Uncle Charlie" to many nephews and nieces in the U.S., France and Israel. He came to this country in 1957 and decided to put down roots in Redwood City, where he joined and was an active member of Temple Beth Jacob. He will be remembered for his love for life and family, and for his tremendous sense of humor. I still remember how wonderful all of your family was when I went out there with my best friend (Barbara Wald's) family. I will never forget how fun Julie's family was and I still have the besch towel you all gave me for christmas that year. I received it in 82 when I was 16 years old.

I am so sorry to hear about Charlie. I will always remember Charlie and Blanche's house as a happy and welcoming home from my childhood. Family gatherings were like walking into a wonderful chaos of smiling faces, big booming voices, and two kisses per person- never just one. Thank you Charlie and Blanche for giving me the whole "big family" experience... It was truly a privilege. My deepest sympathy to Blanche and the family. Charlie and Blanche, you are with me in my thoughts and forever etched in my heart.
