Charles G. Brooks, 84, of Monongahela, died Monday, May 14, 2007, in his home. Born Feb. 12, 1923, in Detroit, Mich., he was the son of the late Anthony and Anna Brooks. He retired as a boiler operator and welder from Duquesne Light in 1983. Mr. Brooks served with the U.S. Navy during World War II and was a member of Transfiguration Catholic Church in Monongahela, where he served as a Eucharistic minister. He also was involved in numerous activities and clubs, such as Third Order of St Francis, a Fourth Degree member of Knights of Columbus Council No. 2600, The Monongahela Senior Citizens Center, Mon Valley Showboat, Monongahela River Buffs, Young Astronauts Program and Astronomy Buff, a former Little League coach and Cub Scout master, a Senior Olympics medalist, a Blue Ribbon wine maker, Jednota, an artist (painter), stamp and coin collector, and he belonged to the Duquesne Light Golf League. He is survived by his wife, Betty Nuhfer-Brooks, whom he married Oct. 28, 1995; five sons and daughters-in-law, Charles and Monica Brooks, of New Eagle, Richard and Mary Kay Brooks, of Monaca, Bernard "BJ" and Terri Brooks, of Finleyville, Daniel and Karen Brooks, of Herndon, Va., and Kevin and Elizabeth Brooks, of Chesterfield, Va.; two daughters and sons-in-law, Julianne and Paul Fowler, of Simi Valley, Calif., and Martina and David Parquette, of Smithton; three step-children, Barbara Henderson, of Pensacola, Fla., Mary Emery, of Bow, N.H., and the Rev. David Nuhfer, of Dublin, Ohio; a sister, Marcella Brooks, of Florida; 19 grandchildren, Deanna Cheberenchick and husband David, Andre, Jason and wife Amanda, Aimee, Julia, Petra Parquette, Ryan and Scott Fowler, Alyssia Merchant and husband Raul, Jessica, Richie, Christopher, Christa, Kayla, Luke, Alex, Elizabeth, Matthew and Nathen Brooks; six step-grandchildren, four great-grandchildren, Bella and Amy Cheberenchick and Corrin and Jacob Parquette; and two step-great- grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Betty Harrington Brooks, on Feb. 13, 1993; a son, Thomas Brooks, in 1969; a twin brother, George P. Brooks; and two sisters, Josephine and Ann. Friends will be received at the MARSHALL MARRA FUNERAL HOME, 216 Chess St., Monongahela (724-258-6767), from 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday and 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated in Transfiguration Catholic Church on Friday, May 18 at 10 a.m. with the Rev. George Chortos, pastor, as celebrant. Interment will follow in Sacred Heart Cemetery, Carroll Township.
