I can't believe it's been three years since Uncle Charles has passed. A few weeks ago I had to drive down to Kent and this brought back a lot of memories of Uncle Charles. He had some key expressions: "a bevvy of beauties" "consequently"... I remember how he enjoyed meals with us at the train restaurant. He always charmed the waitresses. We think those genes got passed on to my youngest nephew. Uncle Charles was good at being in the present. Does anyone have a recording of his voice to share please?

Charles was my big brother both in age, height and spirit. He was 12 years my senior. I remember him holding my hand while teaching me how to skip. I was six or seven when he went into the Navy. I missed him so much. He wrote me letters, first printed and then in cursive as my reading skills progressed. They were from exotic places like California, Japan and the USS Boxer, the aircraft carrier on which he served. I became an early reader because I really wanted to read his letters on my own without help. After his time in the Navy was completed, he came back home and enjoyed being on the water on Lake Erie: speed boats, sailboats and water skiing. After he married, the focus of his life became his family of seven. He liked being a Dad and loved his children very much. Charles was a kind man, a good conversationalist and a great listener, too. Aging, and Co-vid, kept him house bound, but he made the best of it, enjoying the big screen TV that one of his sons got him. He loved his dogs, the birds that flew around the bird feeders outside his window and the flowers beneath. He always ended a phone call with me by saying "Remember, big brother loves you,"as he did the day before he passed. I miss him and I will remember.

Uncle Charles was always smiling. You could even hear his smile on the phone. He had a big heart. He is the only person I have ever met who has taken in homeless people. He was proud of his Irish and Slovenian roots, still remembering key Slovenian phrases! We'll miss his stories. May he rest in peace.

Charles was my big brother. A role model while I was growing up. He was in charge of making sure I kept in line!!A very kind and gentle man. Fun to be with and always gracious and charming. He loved his family very much and was loved by them in turn.
He will be missed by all.
