Carol:
As you know, Chuck was a friend and mentor of mine. The year Chuck served as President of Rotary International (1987-88), I studied at the University of Stockholm as a Rotary Foundation Ambassadorial Scholar. I later worked for the Rotary organization for nearly 25 years and as such came to know Chuck well. His wit, charm and intellect made an enormous impact on me. There were numerous times during our friendship when Chuck came to my aid utilizing his arbitration skills to finesse some delicate situations. My condolences to you and your family. I regret not being able to be with you on Wednesday but know that I will be there in spirit. Chuck was a giant in my eyes and there is a huge void with his passing; he personified Rotary. I was privileged to work with Chuck and author David Forward in preparing the centennial history of The Rotary Foundation. Chuck chaired a blue ribbon committee and his personal knowledge of our Foundation was immense.
