MARION — Funeral services for Charles Lindbergh Page will be held at Greater Singletary AME Church on Friday, Jan. 16, 2009, beginning at 2 p.m. The burial will follow in the churchs cemetery directed by Hines Funeral Home Inc. of Hartsville. The Rev. Henry J. Murray, the pastor of Greater Singletary, will officiate the services. Masonic rites and visitation will take place Thursday, Jan. 15, 2009, beginning at 6 p.m. at the Gilbert Hines Memorial Chapel in Hartsville.
Mr. Page, the third of five siblings born to John and Sophia Page, entered this life March 10, 1932, in Marion. He was called home to rest Jan. 12, 2009, at his home in Hartsville after an illness. He was educated in the public schools of Marion County and graduated in 1953 from Marion Training School. He then attended Benedict College in Columbia and received his Bachelors Degree in 1957. He later earned his Masters Degree from South Carolina State University in Orangeburg.
Mr. Page taught at the following schools: Scotts Branch High School in Summerton, Pine Forest High School in McBee and at Butler High School in Hartsville. He retired from the Hartsville Career Center in Hartsville after more than 30 years of teaching.
Mr. Page was a member of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity and was an honorably discharged veteran of the United States Army. He also was associate patron of Mt. Rona Masonic Lodge, No. 233, Order of Eastern Star, post commander-in-chief of Ashland Consistory No. 246, post coordinator of Region V, Crescent Temple No. 148 Order of Shriners and grand inspector general 33rd Degree.
Charles was a Christian man who loved the Lord with all his heart, mind and soul. His favorite song was Ive Got Angels Watching Over Me. A sister, Arabella McCummings, and a brother, Sam Page, preceded him in death.
Surviving to cherish the loving memory of Charles Lindbergh Page include his loving and devoted wife, Betty Grice Page of Hartsville; his son, Elder Charles Bernard (Lisa) Page; his daughter, Charlita C. Page; his sisters, Isia (Lawrence) Gerald, Leonna Hughes and Julia Mae Crawford; four grandchildren, Renarda Nicole Page Armstrong, Charles Bernard Page Jr., Maliek Page and Charlise Page; three great-grandchildren, Gabrielle, Nicholas and Layla Armstrong; three Godchildren, Lawrence Manning, Craig Brown and Marketa Bethea; his special friends Bernard and Minnie Ruth Coley; and many other relatives and very dear friends.
