Charles Sargeant Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers from Feb. 24 to Feb. 25, 2011.
SARGEANT, Charles Alan Charles Alan Sargeant left us February 19, 2011, at the age of 73, in Edmonton, Alberta after a short and courageous battle with cancer. We are incredibly saddened by his sudden passing but are so thankful he is no longer suffering. Born August 17, 1937 in Carragana, SK, Al and his family lived in Wilkie, before settling in Saskatoon. Al married Marion Winegarden on June 28, 1958 and they became parents with the birth of Michael, Jeffrey, Andrew and Karen. Al worked for Marshal-Wells Saskatoon from 1956-1965. From 1965-1985 he worked for Sterling Distributors Saskatoon. For a short time, he was employed by Lee Valley Tools in Edmonton where he was rewarded for his innovative way of reorganizing their warehouse merchandise nationwide. Al was heavily involved for many years with DeMolay, Masonic Lodge and the Saskatoon Shrine Club. Through his association with these fraternal groups, Al made many, many lifelong friends. He was past Master, Lodge Progress No 92, AF & FM. Active member of the Scottish Rite where he was awarded his 33 Mason, past Thrice Puissant Grand Master, at the Saskatoon Lodge of Perfection. He was Past President of the Saskatoon Shrine Club, and an active member of the Saskatoon Drum & Bugle Corps. Al followed his sons to Alberta, settling in Edmonton in 1991. He found many people (you know who you are) who became his second family. Al is survived by his son Andrew of Calgary, and daughter Karen (Brad) Schierling of Langham, SK, twin brother Skip (Lynn) of Saskatoon, brother Dave of Emma Lake, SK, brother Keith of Saskatoon, brother Barrie (Pamela) of Maple Ridge, BC, grandson Cory McKeachern, granddaughter Justine McKeachern, nieces Larissa Sargeant, Christine McTavish, and Andrea Taylor, nephews Jack (Debbie) Sargeant, Tom (Kris) Sargeant, Dave (Kris) Sargeant, Greg Larson, grandnephews Ethan McTavish, Keenan and Rian Sargeant, grandnieces Macy and Abby Sargeant, Kendra and Jordan Sargeant, sister-in-law Gloria (Ike) Larson. Al was predeceased by his parents Jack and Lilian (Barker) Sargeant, former wife Marion, sons Mike and Jeff, sister-in-law Sonjia Sargeant, nephew Brent Larson, Bruce and Vicki Winegarden. Andy and Karen would like to extend a special thank you to the management, staff and patrons of Bo'Diddly's in Millwoods for their `adoption' of our dad. Memorial service will be held Friday, February 25, 2011, 1:00pm, at St. Patrick's Anglican Church, 334 Knottwood Rd N Edmonton. 780-463-5452. Reception to follow at Bo' Diddly's Millwoods. 101 Mill Woods Town Centre In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Recovery Acres (Calgary) Society 1835 House 1835 27th Avenue SW Calgary, Alberta T2T 1H2 Simply Cremations Edmonton, Alberta in charge of arrangements 780-465-6363.

I have had the pleasure of knowing Al for many years. He always had a great big smile and hello and was genuinely interested in how you were doing.

Very unselfish and caring... the world was a better place because of Al.

My thoughts and prayers go out to you.

Andy, Karen and the rest of the family. I to was a neighour of Sarge's (Al), and am very sorry about his passing. He and I have shared a few pints and laughs over the years. He always looked out for me especially during a tough couple of years. His kindness and heart will always be remembered...
