SCHECH – Charles “Junior,” 86, Johnstown, died May 22, 2008, at Laurelwood Convalescent Center. Born July 29, 1921, in Johnstown, son of the late Charles Thompson and Pauline Virginia (Wilson) Schech. Preceded in death by son, Charles J. Jr., and brother, Albert. Survived by wife, Jeanne (Hesketh); daughters, Pauline Virginia, wife of Paul Saternow, Ohio, and Tracey Berkey, Windber; and these grandchildren: Robert Noe, and wife, Lynn; Ryan Berkey; Kristin, wife of David Patton; and Charles W., and wife, Jennifer. Also survived by great-granddaughter, Cali, and half-brother, Thomas Schech, and wife, Terri, Ehrenfeld. Member of Trinity Lutheran Church, Moose Lodge 349, American Legion Post 0294 and National Horseshoe Pitching Association. Life member of VFW Menoher Post 155. Mr. Schech was an avid horseshoe pitcher and a Cambria County and Tri-County horseshoe pitching champion. A duck-pin bowler at the former Gelles Lanes, now Zips. He was a 1940 graduate of the former Dale High School and was an electrician for Bethlehem Steel Corp., retiring with 43 years’ service. He was a sergeant in the U.S. Army Air Corps during World War II, being presented with the Air Medal, World War II Victory Medal, Good Conduct Medal, EAME Theater Ribbon with three Bronze Stars, American Theater Ribbon and American Defense Ribbon. Family will receive friends from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Saturday at Geisel Funeral Home, Dale. Funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. Sunday at Trinity Lutheran Church, Ash and Golde streets, the Rev. Brian Armen. Interment, Bedford Cemetery, Bedford.

I will always remember eating apple dumplings with Uncle Charles & the time he sat for about an hour pulling burrs from my cockerspainel. I will sadly miss Uncle Charles.
