Charles Staples Obituary
Charles William Staples passed away peacefully on Thursday, November 23, 2023, surrounded by the love of his family after a short battle with cancer. He is survived by his three daughters, Kristen Kirby (Sean), Shawna Staples (Jason), and Michelle Staples (Casey) and six grandchildren: Justin, Grace, Devyn, Gunnar, Owen and Stella and dog, Georgia.
Charles was born and raised just outside of Sydney, Australia in Terrigal. He grew up swimming in the ocean before he could walk and spent his youth competing in surf carnivals and later lifeguarding in the area. His athleticism led him to an early career as a professional rugby player for the Sydney Roosters prior to accepting a full ride scholarship for swimming at the University of Oregon. He held the record in those days for the 50 freestyle at U of O and ultimately the world record in those days.
In his later years he enjoyed fishing. Whether he was he was guiding groups in Alaska, fly fishing in New Zealand or fishing with his family, he had a passion for the sport and made many friends along the way.
Remembrances in his memory can be made to his favorite charities St. Jude or ASPCA.
