GREENSBORO- Charlie Woodrow "Dod" Osborne, 89, passed away on Tuesday, May 23, 2006, at Moses Cone Hospital in Greensboro.
A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at Burnett's Chapel United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Charles Stewart and the Rev. Chuck Rowland officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
Charlie was born on June 21, 1916, in Guilford County to John and Abbie Toomes Osborne. He was a graduate of the Class of 1937 at Sumner High School. After many years of service as a tractor mechanic, he retired from Brockman Ford Tractor in Greensboro. After retirement, he continued to service tractors for friends and neighbors. Charlie was a member of Burnett's Chapel United Methodist Church. Over the years, he had held several offices and taught Sunday School.
Mr. Osborne was preceded in death by a grandson, Gary Osborne and three sisters, Kelsie Henley, Aileen Farabee and Kathleen Thompson.
Surviving are his wife of 65 years, Frances Marshall Osborne; three sons, Charles Wesley and his wife, Jeanette of Pleasant Garden, John Eugene of Greensboro and his girlfriend, Donna Bryson of Archdale and William Dale and his wife, Diane of Greensboro; four grandchildren, Laurie Hamilton and husband Arch of Archdale, Duane Osborne and his wife, Christine of Lansdale, Pa., Megan Osborne of Chapel Hill and Katherine Osborne of Greensboro; and one great-grandson, Andrew Hamilton.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8:30 p.m. today at Hanes-Lineberry Funeral Home, North Elm Street, Greensboro.
