Britton - The Mass of Christian Burial for Charlotte Sigaty will 10 a.m. Saturday, August 16th at St. John de Britto Catholic Church of Britton. Rev. Fr. DeWayne Kayser will be the celebrant. Burial will be in the Britton Cemetery. A vigil service will be conducted at 5 p.m. Friday at the church. Visitation will be from 12 noon to 3 p.m. Friday at the Price Funeral Chapel of Britton, and one hour preceding both the vigil and funeral, at the church. She died Wednesday, August 13, 2003, at Wheatcrest Hills of Britton at the age of 91 years. Charlotte M. Lass was born March 19, 1912, to Peter J. and Katherine (Kennedy) Lass in Beresford, S.D. As a youngster, she attended grade school there until she moved with her family to Phillip, S.D., where they homesteaded. She graduated from Rapid City High School in 1930. She then attended the University of South Dakota for one year, and taught school for a year. She continued this routine for eight years, until she graduated from USD, Vermillion with a B.S. Degree in Secondary Education. She then taught school in Cottonwood, S.D., and later at Lake City High School. She married Lambert Sigaty of Lake City on June 19, 1941, at Beresford. Charlotte lived her married life in the Lake City area. During her teaching career, Charlotte taught in Cottonwood, Phillip, Lake City, Grenville, Amherst and Britton before she retired in 1979. Charlotte was a member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Lake City until she moved to Britton in 1992. Then she joined St. John de Britto Catholic Church. She was active in the altar societies of both parishes. She enjoyed playing cards with her friends, games with her grandchildren and spent many winters in Texas with her many friends in the nice warm climate. She was blessed with incredibly good health until the last few years. She had a good sense of humor and a thoughtful, courteous demeanor which endeared her to her loving family and caring friends. Charlotte is survived by two sons, Vincent (Bonnie) Sigaty of Lake City, S.D., Howard (LaVae) Sigaty of Brookings, S.D.; two daughters, Marilyn (Bob) Holbert of Milbank, S.D., Beverly (John) Migyanko of Ft. Meyers, Fla.; eight grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, two brothers and three sisters. Active casketbearers will be Thomas Holbert, James Sigaty, Donald Monsen, Todd Peter, Scott Stensgaard and Ron Lesnar. Honorary casketbearers will be Treava Holbert, Tom Krier, Teri Peter, Jeni Monsen, Tammy Stensgaard, Kelly Migyanko, Katie Migyanko, Laura Keefe, Marshall Keefe, Alexis Monsen, Emily Monsen, Ashtyn Monsen, Alexis Holbert, Gabrielle Holbert, Mariah Stensgaard, Destin Peter, Dawson Peter, Josh Krier and Janelle Krier.
