Chris West Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Jul. 18, 2024.
Christian (Chris) John West of Pharr, Texas passed away on Tuesday, July 2nd, 2024, from heart complications.

Chris was born in 1947 to Robert and Lenore West of Rittman, Ohio. At the age of 19, Chris and a friend hitchhiked from Ohio to Kansas City, Missouri where he met his lovely wife, Marsha (Hickerson) West. They were married in 1968 and made their home in Weston, MO in 1973, where they raised their two boys, Dan and Brian.

Chris worked in the Transportation industry until he went to work for McCormick Distilling Company as a Logistics and Production Planner in 1985 and retired in 2013.

While living in Weston, Chris and Marsha became avid motorcyclists. They traveled around the country both with each other and with friends. During their travels, Chris had fun with his sidecar to hold all of Marsha's luggage. Upon retirement, they took a 6,000-mile motorcycle trip north to Canada, across to Washington, down the coast of California, and back across the "loneliest road in America" (50 HWY) toward home. This trip was filled with amazing sights.

Chris had a passion for working with scouting Troop 249 of Weston. He began volunteering when his boys became active with the troop. During this time, he held many different positions within the troop and district until his passing.

Chris was a founding board member of the Hayworth Scouting Foundation, which provides financial support for local scouting in Weston.

While RVing, Chris and Marsha found their way to Pharr, Texas as winter Texans starting in 2015. After falling in love with the community of Tropic Star RV Resort, they officially became residents in 2019. Chris enjoyed all Tropic Star had to offer like swimming, shuffleboard, dominoes, pickleball, playing cards, dancing, and socializing.

He was the coordinator of community service projects for the park that included collecting candy for the Police Department for Halloween and adopting families at Christmas. Even after becoming a Texas transplant, he continued to show support for his hometown teams the Kansas City Chiefs, Royals, and Ohio State Football (O-H...IO), never missing a game, even if he had to record it.

Chris was preceded in death by his parents, Robert and Lenore, his sister, Betsy, son, Brian, and grandson, Colby. He is survived by his wife, Marsha, son, Dan and wife Danielle, granddaughter, Chloe and husband David, brother, Ken and wife Kathy, and several nieces and nephews.

The Celebration of Life will be held at Eventful At Locust Grove in Weston, MO on November 9th. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to your favorite charity or organization in Chris's honor.

Such a sweet human being!! We had great conversations and had lots of laughs. Chris was a quiet talker but what he said most of the time was very interesting! He loved to ride and travel with the love of his life Marsha. Always had a smile on his face. He will be missed

We haven't touched base in so many years, but I've thought of Chris often. Not ever the news to hear and may God be with Marsha and Danny and all his family.
