Christopher Lea Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on May 25, 2025.
Christopher Raymond Lea, 46, departed this life on Tuesday, March 18, 2025, in Richmond, Virginia. He is survived by his brother, Geoffrey (Vicki), Uncle Mark Lea (Carol Anne), Aunt Karen Lea Conrad, and friend Paul Sparzak (Monica). He was preceded in death by his parents, Michael and Deborah, and both sets of grandparents, Roger Raymond (Dorothea) and Grady Lea (Mary Belle). Christopher was an alumnus of the University of Illinois-Urbana-Champaign and Hampden-Sydney College. Christopher was a former patent examiner for the United States Patent and Trademark Office.

Christopher was a gentle soul with a huge heart. He was a loving son, brother, and friend. He cared for his mother during her terminal illness. He was a scientist who loved hands-on teaching experiences. His friends will cherish the memories of his humor, sarcasm, storytelling, and laughter. He always had a smile and something witty to say, even when handing out Halloween candy. Christopher loved board games and was the king of Trivial Pursuit. He was an encyclopedia of sports statistics and he prided himself on knowing random trivia. A conversation with Christopher was a unique experience that engaged all aspects of one's intellect. Christopher was an excellent conversationalist; he especially excelled in the topics of LEGOS, Star Wars, Indiana Jones, Chemistry, Physics, Quantum Mechanics, philosophy, video games, and proper grammar etiquette. To all who were close to Christopher, he was a faithful and constant friend.

The family wishes to express their gratitude to those who have made Christopher's last years better, especially Gloria Johnson, his long-term caretaker and a cherished companion. Additionally, they thank the ICU staff at Bon Secours St. Mary's in Richmond and Affinity Funeral Service.

Chris was such a special person. It was my pleasure to spend time with him, over the phone, talking about his week or whatever came to mind. He was a fun, good person. He loved his family so much. He was a fun, good person. I will miss him.

Hampden-Sydney wouldn't have been the same without Chris! My neighbor our freshmen year in Carpenter Z and apartment mate our junior and senior years in the Blakes. It was fun to get him riled up by saying something that you knew he would correct you on. We loved watching football and playing the N64 together. Chris was a generous and caring soul! He donated more money than he should have to support teachers at my school through Donors Choose. My biggest regret is not getting together with Chris more when he moved to Farmville. Chris, you are and will continue to be missed!

Chris and I used to talk a lot. I would call him with random chemistry questions and I would love to drive him crazy with my mispronounciations. He was super proud of his brother and missed his parents a lot. I miss picking up the phone and calling or texting him. I miss you buddy.
