My belief in an afterlife has grown even stronger with you passing, big brother. The signs and strength you send to me daily do not go un missed. Thank you for taking care of me and protecting me all of these years. We shared so much in this life, I find strength knowing that you are now able to have some rest and peace. You carried a heavy load. Love you. -Lisa Pizza

Chris called me one day and asked if I would be interested in painting live with the music during his first ever Festival. It was going to be called The Bella Festival and it was going to occur every Memorial Day weekend starting with Bella Luna. Chris had a 'funny idea' of having his two friends that were visual artists come and paint on either side of the stage while the music played. The FUNNY part of the idea being that both of the visual artists came bearing an almost identical name. (Chuck Hues and Chuck U.)
As different as the two artists happened to be, their name sounded so similar that everyone started getting them mixed up because both worked in the same area for some of the same bands even.
Needless to say that by the second Festival that Chris had put on, called Bella Sol, nobody had any idea which one of the Chucks that they were speaking with anymore. Life started becoming something of a Doctor Seuss poem with people asking, "which Chuck are you". Chris laughed and laughed, often taking pride in reminding us that it was HIM that had made us more famous with the simple act of sponsoring us both to utilize space connected to the main stage and providing us some of the best music in the country to enjoy it with.
And you know what? He spoke the truth.
We could always count on Chris to have a funny idea that would turn out to be something GRAND!
That's just the way he rolled.
He was one of the first ones to welcome me into the club of 'Papas' when my first boy was born, and we had a great Bond that allowed me to enjoy his wonderful family on a regular basis during those years. THATGUY will never be forgotten.
Neither will a lot of the dreams that he dreamt up for us. So I give Thanks that Chris Vdakes friended me all of those years ago. He was very selective with his friendship circle, and I still feel honored to have had such a cool role in his dreams.

With Love, Chuck Hues

I will never forget you chris. When we met you at Northwood, you fit right in with all of us. I remember when there was a couple of times where i was feeling down, you would sit down with me and say that i could do anything in life that i dreamed of. Who cares what other people say. Prove them wrong. Show them that u are strong and u wont stop without a fight. I am sure gonna miss you and rockwell. I will never forget you chris. You always knew how to brighten anyones day. Give my buddy a huge hug for me. He saved natalie and i from coyotes in the back yard. RIP!!!

You helped two complete strangers out one crazy night in downtown Minneapolis. You jumped on your Bike, rode home to get your van, and came back to drive us 45min home! You always stopped and took the time to check in and chat at Harmony Park or 10KLF Thank you for showing us compassion and kindness Chris! We will never forget those gestures. My condolences to your beautiful family.
