Christopher Veney Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on May 12, 2025.
"On life's continuum, I breathed air through an embodied vessel and left indelible marks in the lives I encountered. Now I breathe through the lives still embodied as mine eternally rests. Laugh often and live in your truths as did I and know the soul lives on, only the body dies."

-On the occasion of Christopher M. Veney's transition,

Kimberly R. Veney

On August 7, 1954, in Washington, D.C., the sun rose for Christopher (Chris) MacBeth Veney's embodied life. May 6, 2025, the sun set as he transitioned from this life. Awaiting his arrival into ancestry: his parents, Lawson Jerome Veney, Carol MacBeth Veney and siblings, Carol Shaw, Lawson Veney, Michael Veney, and Timothy Veney.

Remaining to breathe his life and legacy are his loving wife, the former Rosemary Cox, siblings, Rhoda Veney, Kathleen Byrd and Linda Veney; Nieces and nephews: Raphaella Slade, Mark Veney, Damon Byrd, Beth Shaw, Jeannean Veney-O'Donnell, Kimberly Veney, Rhoda Veney, and a host of other family members, both biologically and chosen.

Chris graduated from Calvin Coolidge Senior High School in Washington, D.C., earned his Bachelor of Science degree in Sociology from Bowie State University and as a second-generation student, earned his Master of Social Work degree from Howard University in 1983. His life's work focused on counseling and supporting youth in the Fairfax public school system.

An avid golfer and traveler, Chris, Rose and often other family members made memories on myriad links and beaches. Chris's community will continue living in his Witt and breathing through his always calm demeanor. Never loud or argumentative, his community remains breathing in the calm and remembering to be a voice of reason as did he.

Chris desired his body to be donated as a gift to further medical research at Georgetown University School of Medicine; A service celebrating Chris's life will be announced at a later date. In lieu of flowers, please consider ways to support causes dear to Chris's heart in his honor.

How could it be that such a kind and caring soul has already left us. I have fond memories of Chris. We worked together at several schools in Fairfax County. Thank you Chris for the years you spent helping to take care of God´s little ones. And yes, the adults who felt unheard. You will be missed. Jacqueline Turner

Chris was an angel. He always was trying to help someone. He was a great listener. I worked with Chris in Fairfax County Public Schools. He was with the Baileys Beach crew who went to Dewey Beach each year in June after school ended. We had the best times laughing and sharing stories. He always went to Atlantic City to work with his brother at a bar. I will miss Chris and his smile and stories. Pat McIntosh Neal

I worked with Chris at Holmes Middle School. I admired him greatly and was so glad to have his help in working with our students . I wish to extend my sympathy to his family and please know that all will be in my thoughts and prayers. He was such a wonderful person. I know he will be greatly missed. We always talked about his middle name being the title of my favorite Shakespearean play.
