Clarence Andrus Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Jul. 24, 2025.
Clarence Raymond Andrus, the most cherished husband, dad, Pops, Papa, Grandpa, brother, and-most of all-friend, passed far too soon doing what he loved: riding on the open road, with the sun and wind in his face and the cares of the world eating his dust. No doubt, he had a full heart and that undeniable Santa smile.

The first of six kids born to Clarence Andrus and Emma (McOmie) Andrus, he was a natural leader. He came into this world on December 4, 1942. As the eldest, he took his role at

the top of the kid pyramid very seriously-so seriously that he had to have a huge flock of his own to herd and teach! He was the steady hand, the all-encompassing smile, and the pillar we all leaned on.

Six girls and a wife gave him a run for his money, and he never once flinched or acted

like we were too much to handle. So much so that he took it as a challenge when anyone tugged at his pant leg for help or guidance-never leaving anyone undone. He lived his life with purpose, devotion, integrity, and a loyalty that will be forever unmatched to those

he raised, both biological and otherwise. His compassion for others and the way he cared

is something people write about in books and movies-but he wasn't acting. It's who he was to his core.

He was always so proud of his family, and if given the chance, he'd make you feel like the coolest human on the planet. It made you want to do better and be better, to help make the world a more beautiful place-just like he did. All of our words feel trite as we try to wrap him up in a few paragraphs. So, if you know, you know-and you are better for it.

His legacy lives on through his beautiful bride, Sharon (Gillen) Andrus; daughters Tori

(John), Julie, Jackie, Mindy (Dan), Heather, and Heidi; grandchildren Tony, Scott, Ali,

Cody, Sage, Baylee, Shandi, Tyler, Chase, Rustin, Ryan, Ethan, Emma, Wyatt, Ruby, Ben, and Sofia; and nine great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his sister Terry, sister Pat

(Jeff), and brother Michael. We all have impossible shoes to fill, but he would be so

proud of each one of us as we move forward trying.

We will gather together to tell stories (never like he did-but we'll try), sing, laugh,

cry, and remember to our core how lucky we all were to know him, to love him, and to be loved by him.

When: Thursday July 31st

Where: Crescent Hall, 11020 State Street, Unit A, Sandy, Utah 84070

Time: 6:00-9:00 PM Light dinner graciously donated by Sharon's Relief Society. Program starts at 6 but feel free to come anytime.

Ray's wish was to donate his body to the Department of Neurobiology Body Donor Program at the University of Utah. Unfortunately, he was disqualified upon death. In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation in his name at:

Dear Sharon and family, This was so difficult to hear this week. Your love began so many years ago when you both were almost childhood sweethearts. You are so very special. We hope you know how much you are loved and in our thoughts and prayers. We also send our love to you and your family. Love Pat and LaMar Gillen

I am so sad that Raymond has passed
He has been a devoted and loving husband to Sharon and loving father to all six of his daughters. His family and loved ones have always been his priority.
I´ve read so many stories of the special way he has been there to help Sharon and ways he has shown his love for her and all of the daughters. He will be missed, but will always be remembered for the love, and will live on in each of them forever.

I´m so sorry for all of your loss. What an amazing man! He always showed kindness and love he showed my parents (Devon and Bertha Curtis) and our family. I have so many fond memories when I was a teenager of his laughing and teasing and sharing his amazing musical talents.

So much of the person that I am today is due to the tutelage, mentorship and love that Ray provided me through masonry, and as one of the most selfless young men leaders that one could imagine or ever hope for. One of his famous lines that I use on such a regular basis is and I quote "when the going gets tough, the tough get going." This is served me well throughout my life. Ray, please know that there is a very special place in my heart for you and I will forever miss you. Thank you for everything you´ve done for me.

Ray was my cousin, one year younger than me. We have been very close and very good friends for the last 82-83 years. We even got married the same year. We have spent many days riding our motorcycles, hunting, going to lunch and just visiting with each other. I am 84 years old and Ray was the last of my close friends and I will miss him more that you can imagine. Ray was one of the best people I have ever known.

I´ve never really thought about how special this man is to me. Because he´s always there I´ve never had to wonder what would be like without him. In fact, I thought he was gonna outlive us all.
My uncle Raymond has never hesitated once to my knowledge to help anyone including me several times. There are many people that I can contribute my growth too, but I can´t think of one that compares to you Raymond. I love you and I´ll miss you.

Ray was a good, open and friendly guy. My few encounters with him were always positive. He seemed to find the good in everyone. I´m sorry to see him go.
