Claudia Uhrig

Claudia Uhrig died peacefully at home on Friday, November 16, 2007. She was born April 30, 1939, to Ernie and Laura Lindor. She graduated from Anacortes High school in 1957 and attended Western Washington State College. Golf was her passion, and in 1962 she won the National Collegiate Women's Golf Championship. Following that, she toured with the LPGA as a professional golfer for three years. Claudia fulfilled her lifelong goal when she was able to serve as a resident professional golfer at the Bellingham Golf & Country Club, instructing countless students through the years. In 1980 Claudia was inducted into the Western Washington University Athletics Hall of Fame. She married J. Alan Evans, who preceded her in death. In 1977 she married Frank Uhrig, and together they lived and loved and traveled for over 30 years. In addition to Frank, she is survived by her brother Ernie Lindor, Jr. and his wife Bobbie; her sister Donna Stricker and husband Roger; her stepchildren: Skip Uhrig and his children Marianne and Ellen, and Ira Uhrig and his wife Kristin and their children Jed, Wyatt , Levi, Waylon, and Nellie Rose. Claudia loved her grandchildren dearly, and they returned her love. The family extends their deepest and most heartfelt thanks to Claudia's home-care providers, Visiting Angels. They are Angels indeed. And speaking of Angels, we also extend our thanks to everyone at Whatcom Hospice. The family also thanks Dr. Craig Moore, who went above and beyond the call of duty; Pastor Carl Fischer, a true man of God; and Joe Dyer, a friend who has become like family. Claudia was well-known in her neighborhood for the thousands of beautiful Dahlias that she grew. Yet, in lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to Trinity Lutheran Church, the Whatcom Hospice Foundation, the American Cancer Society, or to the Broadway Youth Center c/o Fountain Community Church. A memorial service will be held at 10:00 AM on Wednesday, November 21st, at Trinity Lutheran Church, 119 Texas Street in Bellingham.
