Claudio Baretta Obituary
It is with great sadness and love that we say goodbye to Claudio, who passed away suddenly on September 5th, 2012 at the age of 55 years.
He will be lovingly remembered by his wife, Karen; daughters, Gina and Lexi; his mother, Assunta; brother, Diego (wife, Cindy and children, Kendra and Kaitlin) and sister, Marisa (husband, David and children, Daniel and Nicolas). He was predeceased by his father, Fred Baretta.
Claudio's family gives special thanks to the caring and compassionate staff of the Cardiac Care Unit at the Royal Alexandra Hospital.
Prayers Tuesday, September 11 at 8:00 p.m. at Santa Maria Goretti Roman Catholic Church, 9110 – 110 Avenue, Edmonton, AB.
Memorial Mass Wednesday, September 12 at 10:30 a.m. at Santa Maria Goretti Roman Catholic Church with Reverend Mark Gazin CSB officiating.

Like everyone in the Scottish Family, Kacey and I are devastated by the sudden loss of Coach Claudio and feel utmost concern and care for the three beautiful women in his life: Karen, Gina and Lexie. In all the years that Claudio coached Kacey in soccer you knew there was never one unkind, unsupportive word spoken to those girls. And the same went for his work life, as Melinda can attest to, having spent a few hours 'paying the wonderful penance' of "having" to spend some time with Claudio in his office at SGCH. Claudio loved children and young adults (well, I think he loved everyone - he certainly treated everyone like he loved them) and as people are commenting so often here, most of all he loved his family, and that was always evident. I'm afraid the world is quite a bit less wonderful and warm, without Claudio in it. You're in our thoughts and prayers, Karen, Gina and Lexie.

Dearest Karen, Lexi and Gina,
Our deepest sympathies to you and your extended family at this difficult time. Claudio was an exceptional man, father, coach, friend...this list goes on. I will always remember the early morning volleyball games when we warmed the bench cheering on the girls, his smile when he talked about "his Gina" and "his Lexi" and for being a great go to person when I had questions about navigating my kids through the high school. Dear Karen, Gina and Lexi - My deepest sympathy to all of you in the loss of a wonderful husband and father. I first met Claudio when I started working at Blueberry in 1994. He was a true friend that always had words of encouragement everyday when I lost Pete. He would come into my office and ask how I was doing and if there was anything he could do. His true caring helped me get through a really difficult time in my life. One day I "lightly" punched his arm as he was teasing me endlessly and he said "is that all you can do" - I said "yes because I have arthritis in my knuckles". Every day after that he called me "Knuckles".... I miss him passing me in the hallway and saying "Knuckles" and I would reply "Claudio"...or he would say "Knuckles are you working in there?"...precious memories. He was a very caring, kind, compassionate man that loved his "girls" endlessly and would share funny stories of the adventures in the Baretta household with his "three girls". He loved you all beyond description. He has left a huge void at SGCHS with all of our staff and students. He will be missed and thought of forever. I extend to all of you my heartfelt sympathies on the loss of a person who I loved and respected. I am Bruce Mintz and have known Claudio as a team mate and as an opponent in soccer. He was a great, intelligent and talented person who I got to know over the years. I always I enjoyed joking with him during and after games.He was an outstanding athlete and team player. I saw him as a loving husband and father who spoke proudly of his family.
I will always remember him and will think about him every time we play KC Trojans or if I get to play net for the team.
