Conrad Calander Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Jan. 1, 2021.
Conrad A. Calander, of Hellertown, PA, formerly of Maple Heights, OH and Asbury, NJ died Thursday, December 31, 2020 at Saucon Valley Manor, Hellertown. Conrad was born in Wheeling, WV on July 31, 1951 to the late Milton Sr. & Margaret E. (Cooper) Calander. Conrad graduated from Michigan State University. As we mourn the loss of our dearest Conrad, we are also lifted as we reflect on his infectious laugh, love of life, passion for helping others, yearn for the outdoors, his pride with his own wrestling stats, and enthusiasm with watching sports intently - in particular the Spartans. The love he shared with family, friends, wrestlers he coached, and acquaintances is one that is unmatched. Conrad was a dedicated teacher in and out of the classroom.  Conrad was most content at his cottage in Canada on the Key River where he thoroughly enjoyed fishing, duck hunting, pitching in on a project or build, dancing while listening to his favorite tunes, sharing his famous ribs and having good times with family and cherished friends. The happiness and  positivity Conrad spread with everyone he touched will be cherished and will live on in our hearts. He was the first to lend a hand and touched everyone he met. His love of life and people was truly inspiring and a trait many will continue to emulate for an eternity.

Conrad was instrumental in me starting my coaching career and taking me under his wing. Whether it was riding to the tournaments together or just a normal day at practice you could always count on his sense of humor and toughness. He was one of the most unique people I have ever met and taught me so much about wrestling. I will miss his laugh and free spirited personality. The days I coached with Conrad were some of the best of my life. Rest in peace my friend.

Just heard about Conrad's passing. He was a teammate of mine at Kent State University. He was lightning quick on his feet. If you blinked you missed his take down. I am so sorry for his loss. The world will shine less without him. David L. Herbert, Canton Ohio

Conrad, You made tough guys out of everyone who ever wrestled for you. Your ways we’re unconventional but effective. You took boys from all different backgrounds and made men. Some became state champs, some did not, nevertheless you made everyone better on the mat and in life. “ Thanks Coach “

Conrad or coach Calander was the one who believed in us but never took it easy on us and pushed us to the max. He was a great friend and will be missed.

We met Conrad in 2001. He was one of the fantastic four whom Paul Ruston brought together to build our cottage in Sand Bay, a bit beyond the mouth of the Key River. Conrad brought a tremendous spirit and energy to the project, and we became, and remain, friends. In fact, it was Conrad who kept an eye on our place when we weren't there, reporting back anything he thought we should know. Then, over the years, we enjoyed his wit and observations on Friday evenings at Bill St. Clair's place (they were Connie and The Dude). Conrad was a wonderful person. Our whole family will miss him.
