The Homegoing Service for Corey Deon "FLAT" Carter will be held Saturday, February 21st, 2015 at the Wright City School Auditorium in Wright City, OK at 11 a.m. with burial following in the Slater Memorial Cemetery in Wright City, OK. He passed from this life February 13, 2015, in Texarkana, TX at the age of 40.
Corey Carter was born November 9, 1974, in DeQueen, Arkansas, to David Barnett and Veda Carter. Corey lived in the McCurtain County area all of his life. Corey was an outstanding all-around star athlete at Wright City, excelling in basketball and baseball. He scored 850 points his senior year when the Lumberjax finished 30-3 and went to the Class A State Finals. Corey went on to Southeastern Oklahoma State University, where he played all four years, scoring 520 points his senior year, the 1996-97 season, helping the team reach the second round of the NAIA national tournament. He earned second team all-conference player, first-team OK Intercollegiate Conference player, and received his Bachelors in Physical Education. Corey was definitely known as a "showstopper," whenever he walked in, people always took notice. He was a member of Olive Branch Baptist Church in Valliant, Oklahoma.
Corey was preceded in death by his grandmother, Dorothy Carter; his grandfather, Johnny B. Carter, Sr.; his stepfather, Willis Crutchfield, Sr.; and his niece, Kason Crutchfield.
He is survived by his mother, Veda Carter and William of Millerton, OK; his father, David Barnett; his daughter, Kyra Johnston of Bethany, OK; his son, Kaiman Johnston of Bethany, OK; his brother, Willis Crutchfield and wife, Darla of Ft. Towson, OK; his sisters, Shannon Carter of Valliant, OK, Felicia Cursh of Ashdown, AR, and Rokisha Burris of Idabel, OK; his special friend, Hali Reynolds of Valliant, OK & daughter, Bella Reynolds; as well as a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, and many other relatives and friends.
The family will receive friends on Thursday, February 19, 2015, between 6-8 p.m. at the Mt. Olive Funeral Home Chapel, 303 N. 2nd St, Hugo, OK.

A true friend, big brother and awesome teammate! Flat was faithful and compassionate, truly someone you would want in the trenches of any kind of battle! God is Sovereign, but it doesn't take away our hurt for loved ones. God bless you brother and love You. You will definitely be missed!
