Craig Dick Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Sep. 24, 2023.
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the sudden passing of Dr. Craig Anthony Kenneth Dick on Thursday, July 20th, 2023. He was born May 12, 1966 at Swedish Hospital in Seattle, WA. After moving across the country, he attended Holy Cross elementary school in Garrett Park, MD where he remained a proud Altar person of his local Holy Cross Parish Church. He earned a scholarship to attend The Heights in Washington D.C. Craig graduated with Honors in 1984. Upon graduation from high school, he attended The University of Virginia where he earned a Bachelors in Chemistry and English literature while earning the Dupont Scholarship in Academics. Craig proceeded to attend George Washington University School of Medicine in Washington, D.C. from 1990-1994.

He continued to excel academically and earned acceptance into the prestigious Alpha Omega Alpha medical honors society. After graduating from medical school, Craig continued his studies at Emory University Affiliated Hospitals in Atlanta, GA where he received a fellowship in Diagnostic Radiology in 1998. He went on to earn a Fellowship in Abdominal Imaging in 1999 from Emory University. He started his radiology career at Northside Radiology Associates at Northside Hospital in Atlanta, GA. As a Radiology resident, he was responsible for medical rotations, lectures and teaching medical students specializing in radiology. Craig eventually became the Assistant Section Chief. Most recently, Craig worked in various positions where he was loved and respected by his colleagues.

Craig loved to read, listen to his favorite music and study languages especially Spanish and French. One of his favorite pastimes was reading Spanish poetry or a good fantasy novel series like Lord of the Rings. He also loved traveling. He especially enjoyed visiting Spain, Italy, Africa, the Dominican Republic and skiing in Colorado and Switzerland. He loved exploring new foods and cultures. He had always hoped to travel to Cuba.

Craig is survived by his Beloved Mother Sharon, his Aunt Kathleen and Uncle Brandt Allen, his brother Brett Swanke, his sisters Kelly Ward, Paige Johnston and Courtney Stanton, his cousins Michael and David Allen, his three brothers-in-law Herb Ward, Remy Johnston, and Tom Stanton, his nephews Jaycob and Garret Stanton, Taylor Ward, Bruno and Braxton Swanke, and Sebastian Johnston, his nieces Melissa Ward, Megan Stanton and many friends. He was preceded in death by his grandparents Jean Marie and Kenneth Swanke and his beloved puppy Bianca. The family requests those who wish to express sympathy to consider making a donation to their favorite charity in Craig's name. Family and friends will gather privately to celebrate Craig's life on October 21st, 2023 at Holy Cross Catholic Church.

I am heartbroken to read this news. My siblings, mother and I always felt that Craig was another member of the family. Although we had not seen him for many years, we will carry his love, generosity and sensitivity in our hearts, always. We send our deepest condolences (belatedly) to all his family.

I was very surprised to see this. I remember Craig quite well. From the time his family was renovating that house over in Kenilworth Avenue to when he worked with Mr. Skiba at the Knowles pharmacy. He was really sweet and fun. Had no idea he became a physician. His mother must have been very proud. Only discovered this as I stumbled across flowers in the back of Holy Cross Church.

I will always have a fond remembrance of Craig. I was young, but I remember his kindness when I was a child.

My condolences to the whole family. I remember you all very fondly.
