Craig Lieberg Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Aug. 16, 2025.
Craig Roy Lieberg of Ventura, California, passed away at his home on August 8, 2025.

Craig was born December 2, 1951, in San Mateo, California, the son of the late Millard Stephen Lieberg and Jean Turner Lieberg. He is survived by his wife Julie Legat, children: Todd (Christina) Lieberg, Collin (Courtney) Lieberg, Jessica (Michael) Stever, and Joshua (Emily) Legat; four grandchildren: Jackson (Emma) Lieberg, Samantha Lieberg, Elise Stever, and Sean Legat; as well as younger sister Patricia Lieberg Clark, stepmothers Jean Lieberg and Carol Sheler, several cousins, and other extended family and friends.

Craig was raised in East Palo Alto, San Francisco, Sunnyvale, and Orange, California. He graduated from Peterson High School in Sunnyvale, then San Diego State University with a degree in History. Like most historians, his career path was unrelated to his studies, as he discovered his talents in finance and entrepreneurship. After college, Craig endeavored as a restaurant owner, bank executive, and most recently, a health insurance broker.

Throughout his life Craig loved adventure with friends and family. In his younger days, he enjoyed many outdoor activities including camping, hiking, and river rafting. In later years, he traveled to exotic places with his wife Julie. They would often visit wineries around California or abroad, vacation in Hawaii, and explore Mexico, including a zipline adventure in the jungles of Cozumel. More recently, he and Julie journeyed to Croatia to enjoy a local food and wine tour.

Music was always a huge part of Craig's life. He and Julie frequently attended concerts, music festivals, and blues cruises together. He loved hearing groups from his formative years as well as more contemporary rock, jazz, Top 40, and blues artists. For many years, Craig was an active member of the Ventura and San Dieguito JayCees, part of the Junior Chamber of Commerce, a nationwide leadership organization, as he wanted to promote community involvement. He was also an avid sports fan, cook, and animal lover. He owned and cared for dogs for most of his life, but also loved cats, rats (Max and Squeaker), and a tortoise (Charlotte).

Craig was a loving and devoted son, husband, father, grandfather, uncle, brother, cousin, and friend. He was a good-humored and kind person with a quick wit and smile. Craig touched the lives of all who knew him, and will be deeply missed.

A memorial service will be held at 3 PM on Saturday, August 23, 2025, at Boyko & Rearden Telegraph Road Mortuary & Cremation, 15 Teloma Drive, Ventura, CA 93003. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Craig's memory to the Santa Barbara Zoo, <https://www.sbzoo.org/general-donations
