Cynthia Swenson Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Feb. 9, 2024.
Cynthia Ann Swenson, beloved mother, grandmother, and friend, passed away on January 30, 2024 after a short illness. She was 75 years old.

Cynthia was born on April 19, 1948 in Hastings Nebraska. She grew up in Iowa, living for many years and raising her children in Clear Lake before returning to Nebraska, making Omaha her home with her husband Joe until the time of her passing.

In addition to being a beloved mother and grandmother, Cynthia was a cherished friend. Her unwavering support, quick and dry humor, and fierce loyalty led to strong friendships throughout her life, many that spanned decades. Cynthia will be remembered by her family and friends for her strength, her compassion, her love of music and dancing, and her sense of humor.

Cynthia was the beloved mother of Elizabeth (Ensign) Underwood of Decatur, Georgia, Danika (Aaron) Marken of Farmington, Minnesota, Kyia (Jason Awe) Allsbrook of Clear Lake, Iowa, and stepmother of Stephen (Susan Saunders) McNellis of Chicago, Illinois and Joanne McNellis of Olathe, Kansas and the beloved grandmother of seven grandchildren, Olivia and Madeline Underwood; Jesslyn, Keira, and Emerson Marken; Lincoln and Camryn Allsbrook; and three step grandchildren; Finn McNellis (son of Joanne); Matthew Soble and Isabel Soble (son & daughter of Susan Saunders). Cynthia also leaves behind a loving extended family, including siblings-in-law Jimmy McNellis and Patsy (McNellis) Webster, and numerous nieces and nephews.

Cynthia was preceded in death by her husband and the love of her life, Joseph McNellis, her mother LeIla Burns and her father, Ralph Bailey.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you remember your favorite charities today and throughout the year. A celebration of Cyndee's life will be held in Omaha this spring/summer,
date to be announced.

I´m so sad to hear this terrible news. Cindo was my mother´s best friend before her passing years prior. Those two were thick as thieves. When you were around them, you always knew you would be in for a good time and a hilarious laugh. I will cherish my memories of her and Joe. I´m so sorry for your loss of a remarkable woman.

We always had a laugh when we were together in a supermarket, as she hated shopping and we joked about it. She would message me in the UK and tell me when she was in a shop. It was something I will remember - her funny dry humour.

Cynthia dahling, you will be sorely missed by so many, you were a welcome and wonderful addition to the McNellis family, and a loving sister-in-law to me. A truly lovely woman is gone, and it's our loss. Patsy (McNellis) Webster and family.
