CARAPELLUCCI
DANIEL
On the eve of his 92nd birthday, our beloved father, grandfather, and great-grandfather passed away peacefully on Tuesday, November 16, 2004. Dan, a general contractor and owner of the D. Carapellucci Company, loved Western Pennsylvania and leaves a proud legacy through his lifelong contributions to Pittsburgh and the surrounding communities. Born in Brentwood, PA, on November 17, 1912, he graduated from Carrick High School and attended Carnegie Institute of Technology. In his youth, he was an accomplished football player and swimmer, and was also known locally for being a semi-professional boxer in his early adult years. Dan lived in South Park, PA, from 1951 through 2003, when he relocated to Fort Walton Beach, FL, to be cared for by his daughter and son-in-law, Arlene and Warner Carmichael. Dan worked for 52 years in the family company, a commercial and utility construction business. He was responsible for building more than 30 schools and churches in Western Pennsylvania. The D. Carapellucci Company also installed hundreds of miles of water line in the Western PA area, working hand-in-hand with the PA American Water Company since the early 1920s. In addition, he achieved statewide recognition as a leader in utility construction, serving as a long-term board member and 1975 president for the Western Pennsylvania Utility Contractors Association. Dan also served as a board member of the National Utility Contractors Association for many years and was its national president in 1982. Dan was an Eagle Scout and a leader in the Boy Scouts of America in the 1950s. He was also a 3rd degree Knight of Columbus. During all of these very active years, the D. Carapellucci Company sponsored a championship duckpins bowling team that twice set the world record for total pins accrued by a team during season play. Dan built the Nativity Catholic Church, school, and rectory, and was a dedicated member of this parish for over 40 years. He was an enthusiastic and faithful fan of his beloved Steelers, Pirates, and Duquesne Dukes. Additionally, he was an avid poker, pinochle, and bridge player, and enjoyed bowling, golfing, and gardening throughout his life. Dan was a loving and giving man. He took great pleasure in giving to others and never sought to be recognized for his generosity. In his 92 years of living on this earth, he touched many lives and made this world a better place. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him, and his light will continue to shine through those he loved. Preceded in death by his first wife, Lillian Ceresa Carapellucci in 1982, and by his second wife, Mary Manko Carapellucci in 2001. Daniel is survived by his children: Linda (Paul) Rusinko of Bradenton, FL, Arlene (Warner) Carmichael of Fort Walton Beach, FL, and Daniel (Annette) Carapellucci of Vail, AZ; his stepchildren, Andrew (Winifred) Manko of Pittsburgh, PA, and Ellen Manko of Santa Cruz, CA; his grandchildren, Marylynn Rusinko, Michele Rusinko, Colin (Lori) Lipnicky, Paula (Brian) Morrison, Garett (Diane) Lipnicky, Marc (Michelle) Rusinko, Darryl (Kimberly) Lipnicky, and Melissa Lipnicky; great-grandchildren, Britney and Paul Morrison, Abigail Lipnicky, Ethan Lipnicky, and Peter Joe Calogero; sisters, Kay McCormack and Jean (Sam) Frank; several nieces and nephews; and numerous friends. Mr. Carapellucci's family will receive friends at the JOHN F. SLATER FUNERAL HOME, INC., 4201 Brownsville Road, Brentwood, on Saturday from 7-9 pm and on Sunday from 2-4 and 7-9 pm. Funeral Prayer Monday on morning at 9:15. Mass of Christian Burial in Nativity Church at 10 am. In lieu of flowers, donations in Dan's honor may be made to the Passionist Nuns, 2715 Churchview Ave., Pittsburgh, PA 15227; or to the PUCA-Emanuel A. Paris Memorial Scholarship Fund, at Scholarship Fund Trustees, c/o Pennsylvania Utility Contractors Association, Strawberry Arcade, 223A Walnut St., Harrisburg, PA 17101.

Dear Linda, Arlene, & Dan,

We were saddened to hear of your Dad's death. Don't know whether you remember my sister, Harriet and I from Owendale Ave. We have such fond memories of our childhood friendship together! My Mom is still alive and doing well at 92 here in Florida also. We would love to see you if you ever get to Jacksonville!!

My Grandmother, Victoria Yellig, had our home at 3904 Dalewood St., Brentwood, built by Mr. Carapellucci for my family in 1929 where we lived until I graduated from BHS in 1942. I hold that home in my heart with fondest memories, thus my affection for Mr. Carapellucci. May he rest in Peace.
