Daniel Thompson Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers from Sep. 27 to Sep. 28, 2005.
THOMPSON _ Daniel Howard Daniel Howard Thompson passed away suddenly on September 22, 2005 at the age of 51 years. Dan is sadly missed by his father, Howard Thompson; sisters, Arlone (Ron) Lenz, Heather Thompson, Kathleen (Bernie) Friesen, and Hjordis (Brian) Rude; brothers, Ted (Donna) Thompson and Arthur (Crystal) Thompson; numerous nieces and nephews, and many friends and associates. Dan was predeceased by his mother, Olive Thompson, and sister, Joyce Thompson. Dan was born in Innisfail, Alberta and grew up on the family farm in the Spruce View area. Later he moved to Calgary to finish his education. Dan loved to travel and it was during those years he travelled to Norway to visit relatives. There he was fortunate to receive permission to work in a factory. This job enabled him to acquire a working knowledge of the Norwegian language. When he returned to Canada he started working in construction in the Innisfail area. Wherever Dan went he made friends. It was while he was working in Innisfail that a friend introduced him to seismic exploration. Firstly, he worked as a permit agent for a Calgary geophysical company. One of his jobs for this company took him to Spitzbergen Island, an island controlled by Norway. Dan's knowledge of Norwegian came handy in building good relations with the company's client. During the oil and gas industry slow-down in the mid-eighties, Dan started his own seismic permit company. "Seismic" became Dan's life work and passion. Through the years he strove to provide quality, competitive services to the seismic industry. His many friends, associates and family will most miss Dan's friendship. Those wishing to pay their respects may do so at a Visitation at FOSTER'S GARDEN CHAPEL, 3220 - 4 Street N.W., Calgary (across from the Queen's Park Cemetery), on Thursday, September 29, 2005 from 6:00 to 9:00 p.m. A Celebration of Life will be held at Bethany Lutheran Church, Dickson, Alberta, on Friday, September 30, 2005 at 3:00 p.m. with Pastor Randy Fiege officiating (from Innisfail, go west on Highway 54 to Spruce View, then south two miles to Dickson). If friends so desire, memorial donations may be made directly to the charity of choice, or to The A.L.S. Society of Canada (Lou Gehrig's Disease), No. 400, 320 - 23 Avenue S.W., Calgary, AB T2S 0J2 ( www.als.ca ). Expressions of sympathy may be forwarded to the family at www.mem.com . Sincere condolences and prayers to Dan Thompson's family, friends and associates, for this tragic loss. Danny's friendship, kindness, compassion, business ethics, and 'trademark smile' will be greatly missed by sooo... many! I have known Danny, as a personal friend, for almost 15 years. I am thankful for the precious time we've had together as Danny, Cathy and the kids (i.e., Aaron, Stephanie and Cassy) visited with my family in Phoenix, throughout the years after we moved from Calgary in 1993. We've certainly all had great times together!

May God bless and comfort you all.

I just really don't know what to say...Dan was like a father to me and to my sister and brother. In the 15 and a half years i knew Dan have learned so much from him. I have the upmost respect and love for this man, more then i ever thought I could for any person. dan always knew how to make me laugh. He was alway easy for me to get along with we just liked to hang out and watch movies or go out to a restraunt and eat... he loved clubsoda and seafood. He always awwnserd his phone Dan spaking and then I would say Cassy speaking. I will always remeber his loving grattitude by takeing me and my family on numerous trips around Canada and USA. He is the reason I have seen some of the places it takes people a lifetime to see. I hope he knows how much he means to me and my family. He is my hero and I sincerly hope I can be like him one day. He bought me my first guitar and he gave me his autographed jersey I will prize these possesions for all my life.

Dan I hope you know how much we love you and will miss you. But I know we will see you when our day comes till then...

Goodbye <33333

I am at a loss of words in expressing my pain for this untimely loss. But if Dan was still here, he would want us to lead life in the direction of our dreams. Never have I known anyone to encourage such strength beyond strength. And in knowing him, i will remember the true passion he gave and the divine love he shared. I know he will be waiting for us on the other side.

Thanks for showing me the way, Dan. I won't let you down!

Dan was more than a boss to Stewart - he had the utmost respect for our family. As difficult as it was at times, he made sure that Stewart was able to be home for milestones whether that was play-off ball tournaments or birthday celebrations. We received a beautiful flower arrangement last year at this time from Dan when we celebrated our 25th. You affected a lot of lives Dan and will be sorely missed.

I met Dan 2 years ago when I started working for Thompson & Associates in Lloydminster. The first thing I noticed about Dan was his outgoing personality and gentle manner. In May I had the privilege of becoming an employee at Dan’s Calgary office - I could not have asked for a better boss. I may have only known Dan for a short time, but I will never forget him. My thoughts are with his family and friends.

I had first met Dan in 1978 when we attended S.A.I.T. together and he was in my Survey Technology class. I can remember him always smiling and helpful when it came to any tough assignments.

Through the years we crossed paths many times and we would frequently talk about "the good old school days".

I will miss those talks and will forever remember Dan's smiling face.
