Daphne Wheeler Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Sep. 3, 2011.

WHEELER, Daphne Lloyd March 17, 1926 August 23, 2011 Daphne was born in Surrey, England, and passed away peacefully in Hospice, Victoria, BC. She is survived by her loving sister, Joyce Jones, friends and students here and away. She received her L.R.A.M. (London), B.F.A. (UVic), and Teaching Diploma (UVic). From 1947 to 2001 she taught in England, Italy (Milan & Rome), and in Victoria at St. Margaret's School and the Voice Department of the Conservatory of Music. She was a caring dedicated teacher in speech & drama, and English, who inspired her students with her own enthusiasm to enjoy and achieve Honors. A traveller, she explored mountain tops to seabeds, and workshops on eclectic subjects. She supported many organizations whose endeavours seek social and environmental justice. Theatre, concerts, opera and ballet were her passions and pleasure; so, too, were her UVic Choir years and until now her years with the Victoria Dicken's Fellowship and the Dead Poets' Society. Always curious about the world around her and with a sense of wonder, seeking her spiritual path led her to esoteric inquiries, learning, joy with others, universality and peace. There will be a Celebration of Life at 1st Memorial, 1155 Fort St., 2 p.m. Friday, Sept. 23. (Donations to Hospice if you wish.) 635908
