Darlene Foster East, 64, of Greensboro, N.C., formerly of Van Meter and Clairton, went home to be with the Lord on April 22, 2009, at her home, following a courageous battle with cancer. She was born April 25,1944, in Van Meter, a daughter of the late James and Julia Foster. She was a graduate of Rostraver High School, Duffs Business Institute, Allegheny Community College and North Carolina Agriculture & Technical State University in 2004. She worked at Westinghouse Corp., and then Mellon Bank. She moved to North Carolina in 1990. After serving 10 years as office manager of University Relations at N.C. A&T., she planned to retire April 30. Throughout her college and professional career, she received many honors and awards. She established a special scholarship in her husband's name at N.C. A&T to assist deserving students. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Elder George R. East; and a brother James Foster Jr. Survivors include her son and daughter-in-law, Wynn Maurice and Kate East of Tennessee; two grandchildren, Janelle and Ahlivia East; two sisters, Gladys Foster (William) of Monessen and Helen Foster Jackson (Leslie) of Washington, D.C.; five brothers: Donald, Clifford, Daniel (Leah), and Floyd (Diane) Foster, all of Pittsburgh, and William (Crystal) Foster of Van Meter; an adopted daughter, Kim Hines of Washington, D.C.; four God children; and many nieces and nephews and other relatives.
