Darrell STARRIE Obituary

Published by Edmonton Journal on Apr. 20, 2012.
STARRIE, Darrell T.
With heavy hearts, we announce Darrell's death on March 3, 2012 at age 54.
Left to mourn is his beloved wife Ronae Marnel, children Erin, David (Jessica), Kathleen, as well as grandchildren Carter and Karis and a large extended family who always held a special measure of affection for him. Brother Grant (Vicky) and sister Judy (Wayne) will miss him forever.
After graduating from Victoria Composite High School in Edmonton, he attended NAIT and eventually found himself beginning a career in the insurance industry. His intelligence and quiet enthusiasm brought him success and recognition in that field. He loved music and in past years could be found setting up the sound system at church and singing joyfully with his beautiful voice or listening to his vast music collection. Darrell valued the people who mentored him throughout the years as he transitioned into the financial planning area and established his business. He ranked among the top achievers in his field and became well-known and widely respected for his expertise and humour in presenting financial planning seminars to companies throughout Alberta and beyond. He will be missed by his wonderful staff at Strategic Financial Concepts, numerous colleagues, clients and his many friends. Darrell and Ronae were world travellers. Their most recent trip was to Panama City. Shortly after their return, Darrell had back surgery. Though cancer was discovered, he maintained hope that with treatment and Ronae's care, he would be able to go home. He did go home, but to his heavenly home. Thank you to every staff member at the University Hospital and Cross Cancer Clinic whose compassion and kindness was extended to Darrell and those he loved.
You will live on in our hearts and memories beloved Darrell.
A Celebration honoring Darrell will be
held on Saturday, April 21 at 12:00 Noon
at the Edmonton Petroleum Club, 11110 - 108 Street N.W. Edmonton. Light Refreshments will be served. At 2:00 p.m. the Cellar Lounge will open. Donations may be made to the Alberta Cancer Foundation.

March 3rd, 2012 to March 3rd, 2019.... It has taken these seven years to dull the pain of your death in my heart. You spring up in photos and memories just a breath away from life. Darrell, you should be able to step out for just awhile. You have in some precious dreams...almost. You woke up in Glory and now call it home. Eternal love, your sister.

My favorite cousin when I came to Edmonton to meet family members. RIP Darrell - I only had a short time with family there but we had so much fun staying up late at Aunt Hilda's!

dear brother: it's almost two years since you died. memories of all that i know of you flow through my heart and mind each day. losing you was an emotional earthquake for me, in part because as your older sister, i thought you would say goodbye to me first. in that i was a teenager when you were born, i had the privilege of loving you as a baby and throughout all 54 years of your life. you were industrious and ambitious, loyal and caring - sometimes impatient, and you had a great zest for life. i miss you so much. keep that candle burning! love forever, your sister judy

I will never forget the day when he and I had a heart to heart in his office and he told me that he saw a very bright future for me. Coming from an ambitious, intelligent man, that was a huge compliment. Darrell, thank you for believing in me and thank you for being such an amazing, supportive person. Love you Dad. There are no words to adequately express all the things that you left me with. I hope that some of your sense of humour, your confidence, intelligence, resourcefulness and the light fun side you have will have rubbed off on me. Not a day goes by that I don't think of you or miss you. I hope you are looking down on us all and smiling. Just simply I hope you know how much we all loved and adored you xoxo,
Erin

I worked with your father when I first started in the business some 25 plus years ago. He was a great mentor. Whenever I ran into him at an insurance event or Advocis meeting he would always talk very proudly about all of you and try and update me on your where abouts! He was very proud. My sincere condolences.
