Dave was a great conversationalist, a wealth of information, a humorist, but most of all a warm, loving and caring individual. The short reunions that we were able to spend time together was truly treasured. Dave always gave 110% to everyone. He will truly be missed by all. Melanie, we love you and our thoughts and prayers are with you, Dave and both families.

Dave, We became best friends from the moment we first met each other.
I came home from working the second shift at Bendix and Mary my wife and Susan her cousin and your wife at the time were in the other room when I came home and saw this person sitting in my living room who I never saw before with very long hair and very tall and thought to myself ---Who the hell is this guy ? But just then Mary and Susan came out of the other room and I began to get to know you and love you like the brother I never had. I have many friends even from childhood that I have known from when we were 7 years old. We still get together every other month or so, but none that I hold so dear as you. I am very saddened that you are now gone from this life but relieved that you are no longer suffering. As you know, I am not a very religous person, but I do believe that our spirits, souls or consiousness will meet each other again in whatever afterlife there is. We are knidred spirits ! I truly miss you my friend and will always have the great and hilarious mements that we shared ! LOVE YA BUDDY !!!!

I only had the pleasure of knowing Dave a few short years, but, will always remember his great sense of humor, his love of music, and his nearly always correct perception of right and wrong. Dave was a true professional in his work and he will be missed in the Florida citrus industry.
See you in the next life my brother.

Although he was a high school classmate I only knew Dave through the emails we traded as alumni. I grew to respect Dave's intellect and spirit. He is gone way too soon. My prayers and sympathy go out to his family and loved ones.

Our deepest sympathies to Dave's family in this time of grief. My memories of Dave are from a while ago, as we all lived in Orlando together, but they are fond memories, and filled with laughter and love. I am so grateful I got to see him at Cara's wedding a few years ago, and hear his laugh one more time. He was one wonderful guy, and will be missed by many.

Dave was truly a man who inspired the best traits in everyone he met. I had no idea that I would marry his daughter eleven years after I met him but he made a lasting impression on me all the same. He was the type of man that I would strive to become over the years. He dealt with life with honor, respect, dignity, hard work, good humor and a moral compass that always pointed North.
"Dave, thank you for seeing the potential for becoming the same kind of man in me and allowing me the honor of marrying Cara, becoming part of your family and considering me a friend. I will miss our conversations, your fantastic sense of humor and your sage advice. I am proud to have called you father-in-law and thankful to have known you. I promise you that I will do everything in my power to take care of Cara and to help Melanie, Sonja and Cacey in your absence. I love you and will miss you!"

Melanie Baldwin & family,
I best new Dave in 1967,both crew members of BC Division.
Sometime after a ONE-ALFA departure,I began to lose strength in my right arm due to nerve damage in my neck.I believed this was due to a fall I sustained in a LCM.
As my arm became weaker, I knew BC Div. wasn't wear I needed to be.
I became a Ship Service striker as
it was light duty and I wouldn't get anyone hurt, including myself.
Dave and I reconnected in June of 2008
With a few e-mails, after 40 years.
His accomplishments in school and his determination to succeed in life and family were among his finest achievements.
Though we were not close,I will not forget this shipmate, taken, way to soon.

During the Viet Nam War I was privileged to work very closely with Dave and during that time we were shelled, mortard and came under small arms fire on numerous occasions. When some cut and ran I could always count on Dave to be a rock of determination to finish the mission. I will remember him as a great sailor and a great man. Rest in peace shipmate. Dave Baldwin, as rare as the legendary Spirit Bear. Although my acquaintance with Dave was brief, it was also very sweet and enriching. I know he leaves behind a great wealth of well-loved family and friends. Journey on, friend... your light is a beacon for us all.
