David Borchers Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Oct. 18, 2022.

David G. Borchers age 54 of Russia, Ohio, died on Friday, October 14, 2022 at Miami Valley Hospital, Dayton. He was born on May 22, 1968 in Greenville, Ohio, to Edward & Merilyn (Wagaman) Borchers.  His father survives in Russia.  His mother preceded him in death in 2020. He married Nicki Magoto on November 9, 2002 in St. Remy Catholic Church, Russia.  She survives in Russia. He is also survived by children: Lauren, Zeb, Eli, Michael, Ellie, Jackson and Paul all at home, his brothers & sisters: Michele Stoltz, Englewood; Doug (& Beth) Borchers, Russia; Kim (& Darrin) Poeppelman, Maria Stein; in-laws: Mike & Kathy Magoto, Russia, brothers-in-law & sisters-in-law: Nate & Lisa Magoto, Russia; Matt & Julie Magoto, Versailles; Melanie & Matt Gibson, Russia, 27 nieces & nephews and many aunts, uncles, cousins and countless friends. Dave was a member of St. Remy Catholic Church his entire life and a Russia basketball coach for longer than he knew his wife. He was entering into his fifth year as Russia’s head coach. Dave truly loved the Lord and his family above all things and displayed that daily. He also had a great love for all sports - coaching, playing, and watching them, especially his own children’s.  He also loved hiking, nature, art, and giving of himself to others. His humble acts of service have touched hundreds of lives. Dave was a proud University of Dayton graduate.  He was a former High School Math Teacher and most recently was the Logistics Manager at Superior Aluminum Products, Russia.  Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 AM on Monday, October 24, 2022 at St. Remy Catholic Church, Russia.  Burial will follow in St. Remy Cemetery.  A private family viewing will be held on Saturday, October 22, from 3-6 PM.  Friends may call at Hogenkamp Funeral Home, Russia on Sunday, October 23, 2022 from 1-7 PM and from 9 to 10 AM on Monday.  In lieu of flowers and gifts, the family would like to line their long driveway with trees in remembrance of him, something Dave always wanted.  You can do that by either using the envelopes at the funeral home or sending checks to RACK at 3240 Redmond Rd. Russia, OH 45363.  Dave continued to give of himself to others after death by being an organ and tissue donor.  The family thanks all for their wonderful outpouring of prayers and support for them. Condolences may be left at www.hogenkampfh.com.

Dave "Chill" always reminded me of his Dad - Ed with that warm smile, humble demeanor and spiritual aura that just oozes goodness and class. I remember "Chill" as a talented athlete who loved to compete on the court and ball field. Just a man of respect in every facet of his life.
We will always keep Dave, Nicki and their beautiful children in our prayers.

My wife and I were on the scene only a minute after it happen. While my wife was calling 911 I crawled in and tried to help the man I now know as (Dave Borchers). Although I couldn't get him out I want you to know he was not alone in this moment of despair. Although he was unconscious I talked to him until the paramedic arrived. I tried to give him as much comfort as possible ensuring him help was on the way and everything would be done to get him out. I am very sorry I couldn't have done more.
