David Chang Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Mar. 4, 2014.
David Chuan-Wen Chang, 72, passed away peacefully on the morning of March 3, 2014
surrounded by his immediate family. David was born on May 20, 1941 in Chongqing, China to
parents General Su-Tze Chang and I-Hsien Yen. He grew up in Taipei, Taiwan and attended
Zheng Zhi University. He came to the United States in 1967 to pursue his studies and obtained
his MBA from St. Mary's University in San Antonio, Texas. It was fate that brought David and his
beloved wife, Doris together at a chance meeting at a hospital in Taizhong when she was covering
the information desk temporarily. They were married in July 1968. David worked as an
accountant and controller for Manco Prestress Company for 32 years until he retired in 2004.
He has many fond memories of his time at Manco and all the wonderful lifelong friends he made
while working there. David had a strong work ethic and sacrificed much for his family. During
the time they owned a family business, he maintained his full time job at Manco during the day
and would then go to their family restaurant, China Dynasty, in the evenings. David loved his
family and did everything to provide for them.
His favorite hobbies included fishing, hiking, bowling, traveling with his family, going to the
beach, playing mah jong, and investing in stocks. He often took his family on road trips across
the country whether to Disney World, the Grand Canyon, Niagra Falls, or visiting potential
universities for his daughter on the east coast. He enjoyed spending time with his wife and
children.
David liked to learn about stocks and investments and he especially loved to share his
knowledge with those around him. He spent hours avidly following multiple news outlets
throughout the day. It brought him great joy to discuss the ins and outs of his favorite pastime.
He was a compassionate, kind, patient, thoughtful man with a great sense of humor. He
always put others needs before his own and always taught his children, "Treat others better
than you would treat yourself." He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, son, brother,
and friend. He was the warmest, selfless, generous, and loving soul.
He also accepted Jesus Christ as His Savior and is in His loving arms now. He will forever
be remembered and deeply loved by his family and friends.
David is survived by his beloved wife of 45 years, Doris Chang, his daughter, Susan Chon,
her husband Chris and their daughters Samantha, Sydney, and Sophia; his son, Tony Chang,
his wife Heather and their sons Asher, Laird, and Ferris; his daughter, Lisa Lim, her husband
Steve and their children Seth, Rylan, and Karis; his brother, George Chang and his wife Diana
of Derwood, Maryland; his sister, Hiv-Wen Wong and her husband Chyuan Chyu of Montreal,
Canada; and his sister Betty Lee and Frank of San Antonio, Texas.
David's family would like to extend their thanks to the doctors and medical professionals at
Methodist Hospital, Kindred Hospital, Select Hospital, TIRR, and St. Luke's Hospital. They
especially want to thank the ICU staff at Kindred Hospital for their compassionate and kind care
of their father.

Our sympathy goes out to your family. David will be missed. He was my first
boss at Manco and I loved working for him. He was always very kind to me and he had such a great sense of humor.

We knew David and Doris as wonderful neighbors, and friends. We have missed them both over the last few years that they have lived in Houston. Bob loved to talk and visit with David, most about the market and what was the best way to invest. Our sympathy and prayers are with your family. David left a beautiful legacy.
