David Check Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers from Dec. 19 to Dec. 20, 2015.

SAN ANTONIO, Texas — David J. Check, 63, of San Antonio, passed away peacefully on Monday, Dec. 7, 2015.

Raised in Swoyersville, he was the son of the late Andrew Check and Violet (Romanoski) Check.

David is survived by his loving wife, Gayle, of 24 years; his brother, Andy Check, Dallas; nieces and nephews.

David graduated from Central Catholic High School, class of 1970, Luzerne County Community College, class of 1972, and Wilkes University, with a degree in commerce and finance, class of 1974.

He was employed by Nabisco/Kraft Foods for 36 years, working in Wilkes-Barre and San Antonio, retiring in 2011.

Dave was an enthusiastic golfer and lifelong Dallas Cowboys fan.

Family and friends will miss his kindness, hearty laugh, beautiful smile and sparkling blue eyes.

Grief is the last act of love to give those who have passed. Where there is deep grief, there is true love. Dave was a happy and vivacious person who would certainly want us to remember him with joy and be comforted by the memories we shared.

Private services were held at Sunset North Funeral Home, San Antonio.

Please share your memories of David at the online Sunset North San Antonio guestbook or the Times Leader online.

A celebration of life gathering will be held at a future date.

I would like to thank everyone for their kindness, Mass cards, sympathy cards, flowers, phone calls and messages. A special thank you to my sister Paula without her support I would be lost. David was my husband, my friend, my soulmate and I miss him terribly. My David was the one that everyone wanted to around from a little kid David stole the show. He was one of a kind and there will never be another like they say "they broke the mold" after David was born. LYT my message to my David he knows what means. Gayle aka Checkmate

Gayle, please know that your friends will always be your friends. You and Dave enjoyed life and were amazing to spend time with doing all sorts of crazy things. He will be missed by all of us. We have so many wonderful memories of good times with you two and no one can take that away from us or you. We wish you the best in the future. Please keep in touch. We are here for you. Gayle, our prayers go out to you and your family. Dave will be missed by Mary and I and all of the Sunday Golf Crew. Dave had a unique way of hitting the golf ball. He would hit the ground first then hit the ball. Even with that swing, the ball would find its way to the fairway most of the times. After that display, Dave earned the name Drop Kick Dave. Words can't explain how much I will miss his friendship and sipping Budlight Lime beers with ice after a round of golf.
Gayle if there is anything Mary and I can do to help you out, please ask. Take care.

Gayle, I am so sorry for your loss. Dave will be missed by all the lives he touched. Whenever someone would mention his name I would automatically think of all the United Way skits he did and how we all laughed until we cried. You have a lot of wonderful memories, hold onto them, they are what helps us through these difficult times. We will keep David and all of you in our thoughts and prayers.

Gayle, I was disheartened to hear of Dave's passing. I truly enjoyed working with him all those years in Wilkes Barre. I also fondly remember kidding him "that his brother, Andy was a better football player than him." Man, would he get mad at me. My prayers go out to you and his family.

Dave's passing was too soon, too sudden.
Gayle, you will find strength to pick up the pieces and someday when you think of Dave you will smile instead of cry. You have good memories .
All in due time. And with our help.

So very sad to hear this news. Dave was my classmate and friend during elementary school through high school. He was really a great guy. Even though I haven't seen him in many years it seems like just yesterday when we were all having a great time during our school years. My deepest sympathy to Gayle, Andy and Colette.

Where do I start. David was a great friend of mine. We went to school together, played Little League & softball together. He was a great help to me when I was going through my Divorce. He was always there for me. We always had a great time either when shooting darts at Shanky's or golfing, especially in Tournaments. I am really going to have another friend in Heaven looking over me. Someday David, we will see each other again & I will buy the drinks this time. RIP my friend.

Gayle,
We still can't believe he is gone! Andy like yourself is just brokenhearted and is still somewhat in disbelief. All of us however have such tremendous memories---mine go back to sharing all my high school classes with David---what a hoot--and then having him as a brother-in-law for 40 years. He was an extra special uncle to Andrew who grieves him as we all do. He will NEVER be forgotten! We all loved him so much.

Gayle & Family,
My fondest memories of growing up on Maltby Avenue in Swoyersville two doors down from the twins include countless smiles and laughs provided by Dave and his beautiful spirit. Please know that he was a dear and wonderful friend with whom I shared the adventures and life experiences that uniquely bond little boys who grow up together but sadly eventually go their separate ways as young men to follow their dreams. Dave was truly loved and will be forever in my thoughts and prayers. He is part of who I am. With warmest regards and deepest sympathy,

Gayle and family!
You and Dave have been in our life practically since we moved to San Antonio. You watched Gabe grow up, and Dave never stopped frightening us by beeping the horn from whatever very shiny, looking better than new vehicle he was in. He was always on the way to HEB to lose his wallet. We were shocked and will miss "Check" TERRIBLY! Eleanor, Colleen, and Gabe
