David Clark Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Aug. 24, 2023.
Rev. Dr. David L.C. Clark, aged 72, of Cathedral City, CA, suddenly passed away on April 21, 2023. Born on March 14, 1951, in Walla Walla, WA, David was known for his unwavering dedication and passion as a priest, scholar, and archaeologist. Throughout his life, he accumulated countless accomplishments, and accolades.

Father David, fervently devoted himself to serving others in his 40 years as a Priest. His inspiring oratory skills captivated audiences, but his true strength lay in his boundless empathy and kindness, which he generously bestowed upon all who sought his guidance. No matter the circumstance, David always made time to offer solace and spiritual counseling, providing unwavering support to those in need.

Left to cherish his memory are his sister, Judy Salzer (David Zuend), and his brother, Lynn Irish Clark (Barb). Additionally, he will be fondly remembered by his nieces, Kari Salzer, Lisa Siegman, Tawny Clark, and nephews, Irish Clark III, Joel Clark, Kelly Clark, Alex Clark, and Jerrod Salzer. Furthermore, he leaves behind several great nieces and nephews, whose lives he positively impacted.

David was preceded in death by his parents, Lynford I. Clark and Ann Smelik Clark, who undoubtedly instilled in him the values and principles that guided his remarkable journey.

Committed to the pursuit of knowledge, David began his formal education at Assumption Catholic Grade School and St. Francis of DeSales Catholic High School. Furthering his academic pursuits, he continued his studies at Gonzaga University, the University of Notre Dame, and Reed College, solidifying his expertise in various disciplines.

David lived and worked in England for twenty-five years, eventually becoming a dual citizen. He pursued his studies there receiving two doctorates, he became a research fellow at Cambridge University and participated in several Archeological digs in Jordan and beyond.

It was David's request that his remains be interred in England.
His sister Judy made the journey to England where a private service was held.

In honor of David's enduring legacy, the family kindly requests that donations be made to Walla Walla Catholic Schools or a charity of your choice, enabling his spirit of compassion and support to live on through these worthy causes.

David's dedication to his faith, his passion for scholarly pursuits, and his kindness will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him. May his soul rest in eternal peace, and may his memory continue to inspire and uplift those whose lives he touched.

So So sad to hear this news, Father David was the epitome of the phrase 'a scholar and a gentleman' he was of great support to me and my wife during our time in Halstead and welcomed me into St Francis's. He will be greatly missed. My condolences to his family

We are so very sad to hear of the passing of Father David. He was a wonderful parish priest and married my husband and I in 2012.

I met Dave so very long ago. We were very young adults, but thought we were so grown up! Dave was the sweetest guy you could ever know. He had the nicest smile. I know you´re smiling down on everyone now Dave. Rest in love Uncle Father DAVE!

I am saddened and shocked to hear of our beloved friend's passing. He baptised both my children in the UK. I have been searching for him all these years, only to see this belatedly. Father David encouraged me out of my depression and ill health at the time to exercise again and be positive; to that intent, we trained for,and ran a half marathon together. His humour, his generosity, his smile...my husband and I have missed him all these years. We spent many a dinner together laughing and exchanging anecdotes. We are distraught to say the least, but his legacy lives on in our hearts forever. Love you, David.

So many treasured memories of our Brother Father Dave. It was such a shock that he left us so soon. I still keep wanting to pick up the phone and give him a call or send a text. So many questions I wish I would have asked.
Reading the kind words from families whose lives he touched gives me joy though. I feel that he is nearby and listening. Love to all and thank you

Dave is so missed by us all. Our love and thoughts are with his family and friends, and for those whose lives he touched, his passing is a loss to us all. He always told us he would return to England and in a way he stayed true to his word.
He was so kind and caring, his gentle way and empathy was never conditional. Regardless of ones background, faith or circumstances his compassion was for all. His homilies were just the best , he managed to make the days reading relevant to us, touching our lives and giving guidance in his gentle way.
Dave made my families life so much richer for being our friend, we are so grateful he came in to our lives and sorry he left so soon.
Dave's sister Judy (who when my son Alex met at 7years old was mesmerised by ) and her family. Dave's Brother and his family, you are all in our thoughts and we send you our love.
Rest in peace Dave with our love, you will never be forgotten and forever missed , we love you much

David was not only my Parish Priest but also a good friend to my wife Anna and me. We shared a love of learning and the advancement of knowledge as fellow academics. David loved our Border Terriers and occasionally relaxed in his favourite armchair by our wood burner and made a fuss of them.David had a wonderful sense of humour and was a compassionate and a loving man. His life has changed, not ended. Rest in peace and rise in glory. Love, Ed, Anna and the Border Terriers: Leo, Dido, Hebe and Hector.

May his memory be a blessing to all. Father Brother was dearly loved and will be sorely missed. We cherish every moment we spent with him. David's gentle spirit, kind heart and comforting words are aspirational for us. He was so quietly intelligent. We loved him dearly.
