David Dworkin passed away peacefully in his 90th year after a lengthy illness. David was born in Calgary and grew up on 5th Avenue S.W. attending McDougall and Central Memorial schools. He is survived by Delsie, his loving wife of 54 years, and his children, Jeff, Rochelle (Paul), Elise (Glen) and Debra; his son in law, Jordan Chapin and six grandchildren; Lauren, Tessa, Mollie, Mahri, Lara and Will, of whom he took great pride in all of their accomplishments. David is also survived by his sister, Edith Barsky, of Calgary, and a multitude of nieces, nephews and cousins. David was pre-deceased by his parents, Saul and Rose Lily Dworkin and his sister Min Fayerman of Vancouver. In 1942, David joined the R.C.A.F. and after training went overseas to serve as a Navigator Bombardier on three squadrons. Soon thereafter, he was promoted to Bombing Leader of Squadron 432, flying 33 missions. David was an inspiring leader and an excellent example of loyalty and devotion to duty. He was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross for his meritorious service. Returning to Calgary in 1945, David went back to school, attaining his B. A. at the University of Toronto and his L.L.B. at the University of Alberta. In addition to practicing law for 50 years, David spread his wings in all directions. He dabbled in cattle, race horses, and wine importation. He sang in the Beth Israel and Beth Tzedec choirs, acted in the Beth Israel Players, was president of the Altadore Gymnastic Club and was a Mason, Shriner and a staunch member of the Air Crew Association. Ever active, David also found time to curl, play tennis and lawn bowl as he and Delsie danced their way around the world. Our deepest gratitude is extended to all the staff on the sixth floor, Sunshine Point, at the Bethany Care Centre. Funeral services will be held the Beth Tzedec Synagogue (1325 Glenmore Trail S.W.) Today, Monday, October 31, 2011 at 11:00 a.m. with burial to follow at the Beth Tzedec Memorial Park (122 Shalom Way S.W.) Donations, in memory of David may be made to the Alzheimer's Society or a Charity of your choice.
