David Greer Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers from Oct. 20 to Oct. 22, 2021.
Greer, David P.

April 28, 1930 - October 16, 2021

David P. Greer, beloved husband, father, father-in-law, grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend.

David was preceded in death by his devoted wife, Nancy. David is survived by daughters, Marthina (Dan Griffiths), Barbara Howell (Robert), and Melinda (former spouse Todd Pearson); seven grandchildren: Kathryn Anderson (Timothy), David Howell (Kristen), Karl Griffiths (Kelly), Elizabeth Howell, Christopher Howell (Tara Deeney), Cole Gomez-Maldonado, and Ella Pearson; sister-in-law, Mary Greer, and many nieces and nephews.

David was born in Des Moines Iowa to Walter G. Greer and Dorothy Jaqua Greer. He was raised in Clarinda, IA and surrounding areas with his brothers Walter "Jerry" Greer and Harry "Bob" Greer. In 1950 David enlisted in the U.S. Army and served in the Korean War where he won several medals recognizing his dedicated service. When David returned from the war he met the love of his life, Nancy Lee Journey. They were wed on October 15, 1954. David and Nancy raised their three daughters and spent their professional lives in Omaha, NE. Prior to his retirement, David served as a Trust Officer for First National Bank of Omaha.

David was active in the Presbyterian Church USA on all levels ranging from his local church to serving on the General Assembly Council Committee of the National Presbyterian Church.

David was a renaissance man – he loved his dogs, target shooting, fishing, history, reading, and travel. He was as handy in the kitchen as he was in his workshop. David and Nancy traveled the world from Alaska to Australia, Pakistan to England, and all points in between.

David was a wonderful leader of his family, a caring father and grandfather, and a fine example of manhood to his sons-in-law and grandsons.

Services will be held in Clarinda, IA in the spring of 2022.

Memorials preferred to the Clarinda Community Foundation or the Presbyterian Foundation.

David and Nancy were lovely people. We worked together on many church projects. David made wonderful soup! Enjoyed them so much and still miss them.

David and Nancy were two of our favorite people.
We miss both of them. They were such help and delights in our friendship group at Desert Palms.

We are sorry to hear of the passing of Dave. May God hold all of us close as we remember what a wonderful father, boss, and friend that Dave was. Dave was a great person to work with and a wonderful leader. He changed so many of our careers with his gentle way to lead his staff. When First National started a brokerage department Dave was there to lead a great group of young women to do the job. We all loved his many quips to offer to let our customers know it would all be okay. He will never be forgotten .We all appreciated what he did for us. He will always be in our thoughts and prayers.

Heartfelt Sympathy to all of David´s Family.

I had the honor and pleasure of working with Dave at First National Bank of Omaha when they opened a Discount Brokerage Department in the early 80´s. As a leader, Dave was patient, kind and very knowledgeable & quite funny most times as he taught our small department the ins and outs of the stock market. I will always remember those days as one of the best jobs I ever had and David Greer was a big reason for that.
Rest In Peace Dear Friend.

My condolences to the family. David was my first boss at my first job after graduating from UNL. I had no idea what I was going to choose as a career and I couldn't have asked for a greater leader and mentor to start it out. We also shared the love of dogs and was privileged to adopt his beloved corgi Abby and eventually took in Chloe - the three legged wonder dog! Many memories of our work experiences and lessoned learned by his guidance, patience, and leadership. May the family be comforted during this time.
