David J. Hazard, age 29, passed away Sept. 1, 2010, at his home in San Francisco after a one-year battle with Leukemia. David was the son of Walter and Cynthia (Callaghan) Hazard of Middleboro, Mass., and the grandson of the late Joseph and Laura Callaghan and the late David and Dorothy Hazard. He is also survived by his devoted sister, Rachel; and his loving companion, Natalie Combs of San Francisco. He grew up in Middleboro, graduating from Middleboro High School in 1999 and Boston University in 2003 with a degree in Environmental Analysis and Policy. Upon graduating, he moved to San Francisco and was employed by the ECM Group, an environmental consulting firm, for five years. In 2009, David and Natalie traveled extensively through New Zealand, Peru and Bolivia. Besides traveling, David enjoyed music, especially playing the drums, and volunteering on weekends at the Alemany Community Farm. He was a passionate environmentalist. David is also survived by his aunts and uncles, Dr. and Mrs. Joseph Callaghan, Michael and Mary (Doherty) Callaghan, William and Marianne Riordan and Patricia Reineck; and by his cousins, Atty. Paul Callaghan, Matthew Callaghan, Dr. Katherine Callaghan, Dan Doherty, David Oates and Eileen Hine. He is also survived by his close Middleboro friends, Mike and Adam Pelletier, Jen Baptiste and Dan Campbell; and his close San Francisco friend and caregiver, Colin Lapuyade. Visitation will be held Friday, Sept. 10, from 4-8 at the Dahlborg-MacNevin Funeral Home, 280 Bedford St. (Rte. 18), Lakeville, Mass. A funeral service will be held at the funeral home Saturday, Sept. 11, at 10 a.m. Burial will follow immediately at the Nemasket Cemetery in Middleboro. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Oxfam America, 226 Causeway St., 5th Fl., Boston, MA 02114 (online at www.oxfam.org), or to the Be The Match Foundation, 3001 Broadway St. N.E., Suite 100, Minneapolis, MN 55413-1753 (online at www.marrow.org). Arrangements are by the Dahlborg-MacNevin Funeral Home, 280 Bedford St., Lakeville.
