David Hussung Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers from Jul. 10 to Jul. 11, 2023.
David Lee Hussung, 79, of Floyds Knobs, Indiana, peacefully went to his heavenly home July 9, 2023 surrounded by his loving family. Visitation will be held from 3:00pm to 7:00pm on Tuesday, July 11 at Graceland Baptist Church, 3600 Kamer Miller Road, New Albany, Indiana. Funeral services will be held at 11:00am on Wednesday July 12 at Graceland Baptist Church, with a private burial to follow at Cave Hill Cemetery. He was preceded in death by his parents, George and Martha Hussung. He is survived by his loving wife of 57 years, Elizabeth (Strohl) Hussung; sister, Linda Hussung Hess; children, Rebecca "Paige" McGuire (Josiah), and David Clark Hussung (Rebekah); and grandchildren, William Clark Hussung (Ashley), Nathanael Lee Hussung, David "Cole" Hussung, Sadie Rebekah Hussung, Grace Olivia McGuire, Faith Yvonne McGuire and Hope Elizabeth McGuire. Dave lived life to the fullest. As a young man growing up in Louisville, he earned the rank of Eagle Scout and graduated from Wagoner High School. He was the first in his family to attend college. He graduated from Rose Polytechnic Institute (now Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology) in 1965. While there he earned a degree in Chemical Engineering, played football, and met the love of his life. Shortly after graduation, Dave and Beth were married. Dave started his career making plastics at GE Appliance Park, while his dad, George Hussung, and his uncle, Henry Hussung, started a new business, Hussung Mechanical Contractors. Within the first year of business, George called Dave and asked him to come work at HMC, and he jumped at the opportunity. Under Dave's leadership, Hussung Mechanical and HMC Service Company grew to be the largest and most well respected mechanical contracting and service companies in the state of KY. In 2012, Dave retired from HMC to spend more time with Beth and travel the world.

Dave loved spending time with his family and friends. He was never idle. Working on his property, traveling, fishing, golfing, and always planning his next project or adventure. Dave had many friends with deep relationships. He was a mentor to many. Integrity welled from his soul. Dave was a strong believer in Christ and donated many hours and resources to his local church and many ministries. His relationship with Christ defined him. As Dave's health was suddenly and aggressively attacked by cancer, he was never able to get in front of it. He was blessed to be able to live all but the last few months of his life with almost perfect health. Because of Dave and his family's faith in God, this is not "Goodbye" but "See you later." In lieu of flowers, please make donations to Southeast Indiana FCA (Fellowship of Christian Athletes (seindianafca.org). Online condolences:www.collinsfuneralhome.net.

DAVID LEE HUSSUNG
DIED TODAY 7/09/23

HE IS THE GREATEST MAN I HAVE EVER KNOWN.
He was an extraordinary example of what a Christian Man should be. He was an exceptional, mentor and leader. An employer with great patience and the willingness to extend a helping hand or a second chance to hundreds of employees that work for Hussung Mechanical throughout the past 50 years. When I went to work with David at HMC, you might say I needed a lot of guidance and support. I had a young family and now spreading my wing's from working in the field, to transitioning into the office. David hired me to work as his assistant and handle some of the smaller projects that he was currently doing himself. As a result of his fatherly and gracious guidance, the trajectory of my family was changed forever and for this, I will always be grateful to this kind, wonderful and extraordinary man.
David I will love, admire and respect you forever.
