David Jones Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Jul. 29, 2025.
David Alan Jones October 13, 1965 - July 17, 2025

David Alan Jones, age 59, of Ocean Springs, Mississippi, passed away on Thursday, July 17, 2025.

Born on October 13, 1965, David was a proud graduate of Ocean Springs High School, Class of 1983. He began his college journey studying meteorology at Florida State University before continuing his education at the University of Southern Mississippi, where he earned a degree in Social Rehabilitation in 1992.

David had a lifelong fascination with weather and a deep passion for tracking and predicting storms. Even before meteorology became a widespread public interest, he was studying storm patterns and sharing forecasts with those around him. His enthusiasm led him to author a book on hurricanes, a project that reflected his dedication and curiosity. Though his health later limited his activity, his love for storm watching never faded.

Above all, David was a devoted father and grandfather who cherished time with his family. He is survived by his son, David L. Jones (Tori) of Jasper, Alabama, and their daughter Reagan; and his daughter, Haylee Jones of D'Iberville, Mississippi.

David's siblings also mourn his passing: his brother Lawrence "Larry" Jones (Lynne) of Ventura, California, and their daughters Julianna and Mariah, and his son Christopher; and his sisters Barbara Jones and Linda Jones, both of Mobile, Alabama.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Lawrence and Eunice (Dolores) Jones, and his brother Michael Jones.

David will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him. His legacy of kindness, curiosity, and love of family will live on in those he leaves behind.

My deepest sympathy to David's family. He was a good friend to our son, Brian, and part of the group who always showed up on Sunday evenings for "pizza at the Holtz's". I loved every one of them and looked forward to seeing the guys. In time, he was a neighbor to our daughter, Nancy, so we were able to see his children as they grew up. My prayers are with his family.

I was heartbroken to hear about David's passing. My memories of David go back to our time at USM, that included days on the softball field, casinos, Mardi Gras and other assorted night life. I always appreciated his steady presence and warm demeanor. More than just a friend, David was someone I consistently turned to for his "unique" relationship advice, and I'll always remember his thoughtful guidance. It was also a given that when a big hurricane or weather event was brewing, David would be the first person to fill me in on the details - he had such a passion for it. I was on the island of Saipan in the Pacific when it took a direct hit from (category 5) Typhoon Yutu. David kept me updated every step of the way. I could tell he really wanted to be there with me.

David's kindness, wisdom, and passion for life left a lasting impression on me, and I know on many others as well. I will truly miss him.

My thoughts are with you and your family as you navigate this loss. Please let me know if you need anything.

With heartfelt sympathy,
David Nichols
