David Josza Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Mar. 28, 2024.
David G. Josza, 87, of Williamsburg, VA, passed away on March 20, 2024. He was born on August 27, 1936, in Cleveland, OH.

David served in the US Army Reserves and had a successful professional career with Warner & Swasey and later Monarch Machine Tool. An Ohioan by birth, spending his formative years and early career there, later in his tenure with Warner & Swasey David and his family lived in Houston, TX for 16 years where he led a branch office developed to support key W&S oil industry customers. He will always be remembered as an honorary Texan by his close friends from that period in his life. He and his wife ultimately returned to Ohio living in Troy for over 25 years. They were extremely active and well regarded in the community, developing deep and lasting relationships with a wide circle of friends. David moved to Williamsburg, VA during the summer of 2023 to be close to his daughter and her family. In his youth David proudly attended Cathedral Latin High School in Cleveland and later received a B.S. degree in Electrical Engineering from Case Western Reserve. He remained an active alumnus of both Cathedral Latin and Case throughout his life. Post his retirement at age 65 he became "the coolest substitute teacher ever" at the local Troy high school.

David and his wife were active members of Troy's St. Patrick's Catholic Church where they both served as Eucharistic Ministers. In his free time, David enjoyed playing golf as well as attending the weekly Saturday morning breakfasts with his buddies at Kay's Diner. David was an avid reader with a keen interest in military history, especially in the area around aviation. He enjoyed the Dayton Air Force National Museum sharing many, many visits throughout the years with his grandchildren and was a regular attendee of the annual Dayton Air Show. David always enjoyed bowling and the comradery and fellowship that came with it. He was an accomplished member of multiple leagues throughout his life and had one of the sweetest soft spin releases ever. He will always be remembered by his friends, children, grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and co-workers for having an amazing heart and gentle smile.

David was married to his love Barbara Ann Josza (LaBant) for 58 years and is survived by their son David Josza, son William Josza and his wife Pamela Josza, daughter Susan North and her husband David North, grandsons Jake Daniel Josza and Evan Jonathan Josza, granddaughters Maggie Josza North, Ellie DeAlba North, and Eden Rose Josza. Barbara preceded him in death (2019) as did his father John F. Josza, mother Theresa Josza (Suba), and brother John "Jack" S. Josza.

On Saturday, May 11, 2024, in Troy, OH a 2:00 pm graveside ceremony will be held at Riverside Cemetery followed by a Celebration of Life at Smith's Boathouse Restaurant beginning at 4:30 pm. Baird Funeral Home is assisting with the arrangements and can be reached at (937) 339-2602.

He was my next door neighbor growing up. He was the best. He would always play baseball with me and throw pop ups so i could dive and try to make crazy catches to put on espn top plays! We would always joke about that. He allowed me to be physical and imaginative and forever will be in my heart. There are many more stories to tell, but I´ll end on the fact that he was a great man.

I spent the early years of my career with you at Warner & Swasey and for that I am blessed. You were my mentor from so much I learned. You were a friend that I spent Friday evenings out on golf course or in the bowling alley or just hanging out. What memories!!! It makes me happy knowing you and Barb are back together.

David genuinely cared for others. He was kind, nurturing, fun-loving, and always supportive of his many friends. His obituary is a loving tribute to a man who lived a full, long life filled with his kindness, charm, a sense of adventure, and keen intellect. David, you will be greatly missed.
