David J. Kruzic, age 91 of Johnston, formerly of Albia, died Thursday, September 27, 2012, at Bishop Drumm Retirement Center in Johnston. David was born June 19, 1921, in Hocking, IA to Slava and Julia Maholic (Kruzic). He lived in Solon for over 25 years, before moving to Melrose and later to Albia. He resided at Martina Place Assisted Living and Bishop Drumm Care Center in Johnston since 1998. He married Mary Margaret Coady on July 4, 1944. She passed away in 1997. David was a construction worker for many years and was a member of the Union Laborers. He enjoyed the outdoors, gardening and planting trees. David is survived by his two daughters, Karen (Steven) Jacobson of Ankeny and Jo (Duane) Leonard of Ankeny; his three sons, Tony (Linda) Kruzic of Topeka, KS, Danny (Louisa) Kruzic of West Des Moines, and Christopher (Twilla) Kruzic of Mystic; seven grandchildren; and two step grandchildren; and six great grandchildren. Dave was preceded in death by his parents Slava and Julia; his wife Mary; two sisters Mildred Cary and Rita Phillips; and a brother, Henry Kruzic. A memorial service will be held at 1:00 p.m., Monday, October 1, 2012, at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Albia, with Fr. Michael E. Volkmer, C.PP.S. officiating. Burial will follow at St. Mary's Cemetery in Albia. No Visitation is planned. Memorial contributions may be made to Trees Forever.
