On Wednesday, April 12th, 2023, David Lamar Pelfrey gained his heavenly wings. David was born September 22, 1951, in Chattanooga, TN. He graduated from Hixson High School class of 1969. He married Theresa Sue Pelfrey in 1971 and they were married until her passing in 2010.
David worked as a store manager in several grocery stores in Chattanooga all of his life and retired from Sav-A-Lot in 2011. He then married Penny Wagner Pelfrey in 2011 and they moved and lived the retirement life in Zephyrhills, Florida. Together they attended New Hope Baptist Church in Zephyrhills.
David had several loves, his family, Alabama football, cooking, and gardening.
David was known for his huge heart and musical talents. He played guitar and sang in a band with two other friends known as “Touch of Grass”. He loved and was loved by all that knew him, and will be dearly missed.
David was a member of the Brainerd Lodge No. 736, and a Shriner at Alhambra Temple in Chattanooga, TN.
He is preceded in death by his father James H. Pelfrey, his mother Marie (Gravitt) Pelfrey, his wife Theresa S. Pelfrey, his sister Barbara Isham and brothers Kenny, Jerry, Billy, Junior, and Ricky Pelfrey.
He is survived by his wife Penny W. Pelfrey, sister Sue Brock of Knoxville, TN, son Brian (Jennifer) Pelfrey of Hixson, TN, grandsons Bronson of Charleston, SC, Tre’ of Hixson, TN, and granddaughter Brittany of Johnson City, TN, stepson Josh (Jessica) Woods of Prattville, Al, grandchildren Raelynn, Kaius, Maddox, and several nieces, nephews and a large extended family stretching from Chattanooga to Zephryhills.
Celebration of life services will be held in Chattanooga, TN, and Zephyrhills, FL at a later date and time.
Arrangements are under the care of Hodges Family Funeral Home 301 Chapel Dade City, FL
