David Sandberg Obituary

Published by Comox Valley Echo from Dec. 5 to Dec. 7, 2014.
SANDBERG, David Carl It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of David Carl Sandberg on November 27, 2014 at his home in Courtenay, BC. Dave was born in Brockington, Saskatchewan to Rudolf and Minnie, the youngest of 7 children. As a young man Dave joined the Airforce at the age of 18 years and he was stationed in Comox and Holbert. This is when Dave fell in love with the west coast. After his release from the service Dave worked on the DEW line as a radar tech and then with BC Tel until his retirement. As a snowbird from Mission City they travelled south annually for ten years then in 2002 he moved to the Comox Valley with his wife Gloria. Best described by his nieces and nephews as written by Eloise "Golfer, curler, competitor, card games, wicked laugh, intelligent, reflective, commanding presence, stubborn, camping, Reno, Cloverdale, summer spiels, Legion, meat draws, solitaire, jugs of beer, horseradish, trophies, cautious, innovative, reserved, well read, dancer, Ford Worlds, Scottie, Flloyd's Diner, chair sun tanning (one beer at a time), Holy Smoke Tavern and pool shark…" Dave is survived by his wife of 50 years Gloria and his son Carl (Barb) of Victoria, one sister Marie in Alberta, brother in law Bill in Alberta and sister in law Crystal in Saskatchewan, along with many nieces and nephews. There will be no service and flowers gratefully declined. Donations may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation of BC and Yukon or the BC Cancer Foundation. Loved and always in our hearts.

So sad to say goodbye to a wonderful uncle! You will be missed. Even though we haven't been in touch over the past few years--I'll always remember Uncle Dave coming to visit when I was little. Gloria, Carl and Barb--please accept my deepest condolences. My thoughts & prayers are with you. Love & Hugs. Donna

Sad to say goodbye, sad for those left behind..glad to have a little time in Victoria and at Floyd's. Somewhere there is my old '79 Newport with "ES" waxed onto the hood by my uncle's hands. Love him miss him, will remember.

Carl ,Barb and family, although I didn't get an opportunity to know Mr.Sandberg, I do know what it's like to lose a loved one and want to extend my deepest condolences to you all. He must have been a great man to have raised a son like Carl. My thoughts are with you in this difficult time.
