DAINGERFIELD - Our beloved brother and uncle went home to be with his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on Monday, February 22, 2010.
Services will be held 2 p.m. Friday, February 26, 2010, at First United Methodist Church in Daingerfield, with Marcie McGill and the Rev. Jeff Stull officiating. Interment will be in Daingerfield Cemetery.
David was born in Sherman, Texas, on July 24, 1952, to Vincent and Winnie Gee Shadid. He was preceded in death by his parents and grandparents, Hess and Claudia McNorton of Daingerfield and Abraham and Mary Shadid of Sherman, Texas.
David moved to Daingerfield in 1956. He graduated from Daingerfield High School in 1973. He and his family joined the Methodist Church where he was active in Sunday school and worship. He was a member of the choir, Men's Bible class, Chrismon ministry, church softball team, "The Ordinary Men" bible study, and served on several committees. He was a dedicated Youth Leader in the U.M.Y.F. until his death. He truly had a love for God and his church. He was a member of Den 2 Cub Scouts and Boy Scout Troop 200 of the Boy Scouts of America. He and his Dad were active members of the Democratic Party during the 1970's-1990's. He had an interest in C.B. radios, and he was involved in many area C.B. clubs, where he helped raise money for St. Jude's Children's Research Hospital. Some of his employers included H.B. Zachry, Tuboscope and Maberry Ranch and Bat Homes. He also did lawncare and was a constant caregiver to his parents for many years. He had a love for history and could always tell you about many interesting historical facts. His hobbies were woodworking, coaching his niece's softball team and drinking coffee at the local Subway. His friends will remember him for his quick wit and always trying to make people laugh. He never met a stranger, and he was a loyal friend to all.
His greatest joy in life was his family, especially his nephew and nieces, Brent, Jennifer and Marcie, who he claimed as his own. Those left to cherish his memory are brother and sister-in-law, Micheal and Felicia Shadid of Seagoville, Texas; sister and brother-in-law, Claudia and Johnny McGill of Daingerfield, Texas; nephew, Brent McGill of Dallas, Texas; nieces, Dr. Jennifer McGill of Jackson, Tennessee, and Marcie McGill of Irving, Texas; an aunt, Margie Leitzel of McAlisterville, Pennsylvania; cousins; and a host of special and loving friends.
His family will receive friends today, February 25, 2010, 6-8 p.m. at Nail-Haggard Funeral Home in Daingerfield. Memorials may be made to F.U.M.C. Daingerfield Youth or to The American Diabetes Assoc.

The news of our cousin was a shock to all of us. I am very thankful of the memories our family have of David with our children and with Al and I. He was full of laughter and made everyone laugh. I can still remember all the childhood mischief and fun the four of us (Michael, Marilynn, Eva, and David) would get into. We were truly the foursome of cousins. We will always have David's memory in our family as our son Adam laughs exactly like David. Everytime he laughs, Al and I talk and say---"he laughs exactly like David!!!" God Bless his soul and bless the dear ones who grieve him.
Love always, your cousin Eva Rose (Shadid) Graf

Claudia, McGill Family, and Mike:
I'm very sorry to hear about the passing of David. I sat down this week and remembered the memories of him at church and when we worked together building bat homes. He was a true follower of God and I will miss him greatly. He especially touched me because he always loved when I would "blow that horn", as he would always say. He had a love for music and I praised him for what he brought to the choir at FUMC. My prayers go out to you and your family. You are like family to me and I will always appreciate what David and you have done for me. Take care and God Bless!

Mike, Felicia,Claudia, and Johnny,
My heart and prayers are with all of you during this extremely difficult time in your lives. I too, have suffered the loss of a brother and an older sister. Rest assured that David is in a good place, he is with the Lord and enjoying the fruits of his labor. Missing David will not go quickly nor quietly, but I remind you that someday you will be reunited with him in Heaven.
