Dawn Urankar Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Feb. 22, 2024.
Dawn Esther Urankar, aged 52, of York, PA, passed away on February 7, 2024, after a three-and-a-half-year battle with Stage 3c ovarian cancer. Born to the late Mary on September 11, 1971, in Penn Hills, PA, Dawn's life was a testament to her enduring compassion and her unwavering commitment to her family and local community.

A student of Kent State and Seton Hill Universities, Dawn was a person of many talents and interests. Her creative spirit found joy in the arts, from the tactile pleasure of clay to the visual storytelling of photography and the intricate work with fibers. She bestowed her artistic gifts generously, always aiding others in their creative pursuits, and her presence was a staple in the local yarn community.

Dawn was instrumental in the start up and success of one of her best friend's, Joan, yarn shop. Her contributions were immeasurable, and her legacy there remains strong.

Dawn is survived by her devoted husband, Rob Matson, and their cherished sons, Lucas and Logan Matson. Her love was a guiding force in their lives, and her memory will continue to be a beacon of love and strength for them.

In a final act of service to others, Dawn donated her body to science, ensuring that she would continue to contribute to the wellbeing of others. Her remains will be laid to rest at Penn Forest Natural Burial Park in Verona, PA, just five miles from where she was born.

Her family respectfully requests that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to Penn Forest Natural Burial Park. Contributions can be made via their website at https://www.pennforestcemetery.com/donations/donate-to-our-remembrance-garden/.

Dawn's compassion, love of the creative process, and ability to share happy moments more than any other, have left an indelible imprint on the lives of those she touched. She will be deeply missed and forever remembered as a beloved wife, mother, and friend. Her spirit will live on in the beauty of the small corner of the world she helped to create and in the hearts of those who love her.

Dawn was the kindest person I have ever met. She always had a quiet calmness about her, that hid the strong warrior inside. She could handle anything with dignity. Her incredible spirit lives on in all of us.

I remember that when I first met Dawn I thought she complimented Rob so well and I was very happy for them. When they were expecting Logan, my mom (Rob is my bro) was so excited and really wanted to get some dresses so we called Dawn and she asked me to please let Gramma down lightly, lol! Dawn was so creative and I will forever be thankful that when we visited in 2010, she spent a lot of time helping me to get crocheting again. My only regret is that we didn´t get to spend more time with Dawn, Rob, and their boys. May she rest in peace

Dawn might´ve the most open minded person I know. She had the ability to see and bring out the good in people. She and Rob had the kind of love I envy and millions never feel in their lifetime. I will truly miss her because she was a sister in law I´d hoped to know better the future

Dawn was one of the most caring kind people I have ever known. She was always willing the share her knowledge. She was a patient teacher. I will cherish the memories of knit nights at Panera. Rest in peace my friend.
