Dennis Monroe Howry

Dennis Monroe Howry, 81, died Tuesday, September 3, 2024 at his home in North Richland Hills, Texas after a three year fight against liver cancer.

In addition to a 33-year career with GTE/Verizon in construction management, Dennis served his community as a member of the City Council in Rowlett, Texas, Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Rowlett Chamber of Commerce, Chairman of the Administrative Board and Chairman of the Building Committee at First United Methodist Church of Rowlett. Dennis was a White's Chapel Methodist Church member, and enjoyed a second career as a school bus driver for Grapevine-Colleyville Independent School District, where he was affectionately known as "Mr. Dennis" to the dozens of children he ushered to and from school for more than 10 years. Dennis enjoyed spending time with his family, singing in the church choir, attending and watching baseball games, and tinkering with anything he could fix.

Dennis was preceded in death by his parents, Clarence and Clarice Howry, and his sisters Janiece King and Linda Headley. He is survived by his loving wife of 54 years, Mary Ann Repp Howry of North Richland Hills; children Michael Howry and his wife Kathryn of San Diego, California; Jennifer Howry Fadden and her husband Mark and sons Jackson and Grant of Colleyville, Texas; brother David Howry and his wife Kim of Athens, Texas.

Dennis gave the ultimate gift by donating his body to UT Southwestern Medical Center so that he could continue to be of service to others in the quest for a cure for cancer. The family will host a Celebration of Life at 11 a.m. on Friday, September 20, 2024 at White's Chapel Methodist Church, Southlake.
