Diana Louise Dowds Sullivan

Diana Louise Dowds Sullivan, 41, of San Pedro, CA, passed on Sunday, 11 March 2012, in Tucson, Arizona, from complications resulting from a brain aneurysm she suffered Sunday, 4 March 2012. Born beautiful to Douglas Louis and Sandra Lynn Dowds in Harbor City, California, on a Wednesday, 24 February 1971, Diana was a lifelong resident of the local communities, spending the last 20 years of her life in San Pedro with her husband, Timothy Patrick Sullivan. She worked in a number of jobs into her early twenties, but it was her love for the care and assistance of others which led to her pursuit of a professional standing in Psychotherapy, years of heart-felt contribution to San Pedro, and, ultimately, the formation of the Peninsula Family Wellness Center with her friend and partner, Josette Ciolino. She is survived by her husband, Timothy Patrick Sullivan of San Pedro; father, Douglas Dowds of Carson, three sisters, Debra Munoz and husband Javier of Ontario, Darlene Lobato of Riverside, Danise Canizalez and husband Abel of San Pedro; and brother, Donald Dowds and wife, Junko of Marina del Rey; nephews and nieces, Samantha, Jacob, Alyssa, and Nathaniel; Mykal, Hannah, Cassandra, and Cynthia; and Christian, Adrian, Julian, and Daniella, as well as many friends. She is preceded in death by her mother, Sandra Lynn Dowds. The family will receive friends for a celebration of her life from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., Saturday, 14 April 2012, at the Grand Annex, 434 W. 6th St., San Pedro, CA 90731. Rev. John T. Morehouse will officiate.
Friends with questions may call Danise Canizalez at 310.710.0293. Contributions in memory of Diana may be made out to The Brain Aneurysm Foundation, 269 Hanover Street, Building 3, Hanover, MA 02339. Please sign the guest book at www.dailybreeze.com/obits.

11 years have gone by in the blink of an eye. Donald has now joined you along with mom and Gerry. I wish you were here with us still. I could use your wisdom and encouragement. I wish we could all live on forever! Life is so hard when family and friends start passing away. Depression and anxiety along with panic attacks are no joke, but I am still here. Until my time comes I will forever hold you all in my heart! I love and miss you beyond words!!!

It is still so hard to believe that it has been 10 years. The time has gone by so fast, even though it seems like yesterday! Donald is with you know. It hurts to know he isn't here anymore but it warms my heart knowing he is with you, mom, and Gerry. I miss you all so much and can't wait until we are all reunited again. Until that day comes I will forever keep you all in my heart! I love and miss you so very much!!!

Dear Uncle Doug, Debbi, Donald, Darlene & Danise,
I am so sorry for your loss. I first met Diana when she was just a young girl (the eldest of the five little Peppers). Even then, she posessed maturity and intelligence beyond her years...but still managed to play Duck Duck Goose on a moments notice. It was nice to watch her grow up into such a wonderful person always helping others with her special talents.
She will truly be missed by everyone who ever had the pleasure of knowing her.

Love
Bob

I only met Diana once.... at a session with my daughter. She wanted me to meet her so that I could see for myself just how amazing this woman was. I loved her the minute she began talking, so focused on the conversation and so right-on with each response! My daughter had told me she could have been her best friend - she felt so connected. When my daughter called me with the news of Diana's sudden passing she was in a state of devastation .... "what will I do without her, Mom?" was all she could say. She made such an impact in every aspect on my daughter and her husband's lives with her tremendous understanding and advice. What a blessing she was! My heart goes out to all who knew and loved her.

I was saddened to hear about Diana passing. I would like to send my deepest condolescences to the family. I met Diana while interning at the Harbor Free Clinic. She was such a generous therapist who shared her vast knowledge and therapuetic skills. I found Diana to be such a caring and humanistic therapist. I looked up to her as a mentor and role model while at the clinic. I learned so much from her. I can remember the times when I felt intimidated by a new case and Diana would re-enforce to me how I was the perfect therapist for this client and then she would give me some ideas on what approach to use. I can only hope to be as effective as she was with her clients when I obtain my license. My prayers will be with the family.
Sincerely,
Norma C. Rodriguez

I just awoke from a dream... we were playing as kids in the front yard, the garage door was open and a guy walked up thru the crowd of about 10 kids which included you and I and jumped on your beach cruiser and rode off! I chased him as far and as fast as I could but could not catch him.. when I came back I was crying because I could not get your bike back, you hugged me and told me "don't cry, you tried to catch him, thank you" as you smiled. I was 7 and you were 9. I miss you... I love you and will always cherish all of the memories we shared.

Dear Uncle Doug, Debbi, Donald, Darlene & Danise,

I was lucky enough to hold a tiny baby Diana when Aunt Sandi visited NJ after my mother passed away in 1971. I then had to wait many years before finally meeting all the little Peppers. You have been such a special, important part of my life ever since. Diana was taken much too young. My heart is filled with sorrow for you. May Diana's zest for life and her beautiful inner light live on through all of you. And may she rest in peace with Aunt Sandi, Mom-Mom and all of our loved ones. God bless you.

With all my love,
Cindy

Diana, It feels like just yesterday I sat down with you and began to poor my heart out. There was something about you that made it so easy for me me to open up. You asked the hard questions and got to the root of some of my deepest issues. As you know sometimes this would result in tears. And everytime I would break down and begin to cry you would say the same thing, " Breathe! I cant breathe until you breathe..." The day I heard of your passing and I began to break down those words poored through my mind, heart, and soul. Just like that i took a deep breath and I heard your voice. You came into my life and touched me in so many ways and for that, I will never forget you. And everytime I start to cry I want you to know it will end with a smile as soon as I remember to breathe...

Dear Doug and family, I was so sorry to hear of this tremendous loss of a hardworking and wonderful woman.. it is better that Sandi gets to be with her firstborn now, rather than having to suffer the loss you are all going through at this time..I remember so well how thrilled and proud Sandi was when she was born, we had all of our kids within a few months of each other and, despite being a continent apart, shared our child-raising experiences through many letters, and a friendship that lasted from grammar school until God took Sandi to be with Him.. my deepest condolences to all of you, and prayers that both Sandi and her Diana, of whom she was so proud, will rest in peace, together...Fondly, Gerri.

My first born and always perfectionist daughter has gone on to visit her Mother. "Wheezie" always strived to excel and left her family, friends and clients too early. Isn't it sad that we say more good things about people when they leave us than in our day to day lives? Perhaps that is why some never stop trying to please. Such was Diana to all who really knew her and her relationships. I will remember my baby who buried her pet "forg' in the front yard, entered "Ohm Sweet Ohm" in the LA County science fair and had to repeat a whole year of college due to El Camino having lost her records. Despite all this she started over at Harbor graduating with honors that she carried on to CSDH. Known for burning the candle at both ends and never really getting enough sleep, we had more in common that she ever knew. Let her memory be all that she was known for in life and for the imprint she left on all who had the privelege to know her...

Love,

Dad

Diana you were a very special person to me even though i hadn't known you for that long I had already gotten attached to you after like the first week. Everytime i would go visit you I would always look forward to our talks and getting to see you and just have good times. I woulld always also look forward to the next time we would be talking becuse you were not like any other therapist that would just sit there and listen and ask question you would always make it a fun time. You had the greatest sense of humor and you would always be in a happy mood even if you were starving lol. I loved how you werre weird but in the coolest way possible you would always make me laugh because at times i felt like i was talking to one of my best friends but then came to realize i was you were and are always going to be my bestfriends i will never forget you and i will always think of you wheni have a problem or just need someone to talk to. You will be missed so much i cant even explain. When i heard that u had passed i could not believe it i didnt want to believe it because i had so much stuff to tell you and i just keep remembering how excited you were to here which guy i would like next lol. and i know that we had only been seeing eachother for about 2 or 3 weeks but u had already been atched to you and knew that we would always have things to talk about. I will miss u sooomuch and i think about you every day. You werea real amazing person there is no other person that will ever be able to replace you or even be the same as you. You are wat to unique to be replaced you will also never be forgotten! I LOVE YOU Diana you mean the world to me and u always will. Im so dlad that I got the chance to meet you <3 :D

Diana, we met about 2years ago, while Freddie and I went to Farmers market. We walked around in "the tunnel" and saw your office. You came up behind us and asked if we needed any help. With your sweet smile and warm, compassionate, comfortable way about you, we all connected INSTANTLY! I referred you to someone and of course, they loved you! It wasn't long after that my whole family was turning to you for help and you made every effort to be available to us all. Many of us were lucky you fit us in and others were satisfied to have someone else in the offices help, because you vowged for them!! We became so close so very fast that we often went over our time limit and longed for the next weeks appointment. I can not thank you enogh for all you have done for myself, my family & friends! My heart aches everyday! love you & miss you always. You will never be forgotten and in your memory i will take what you have given me and promise to apply it to my life daily. He takes the good ones to make them angels in heaven and i know you are watching over us all! It was an honnor to have known you!!!!!!

My condolences...Diana, I remember you as a smart cookie who always had a smile on your face and a sunny outlook on life. I can still remember you in high school, carrying your books and being the diligent student that you were. I wish that I got to know you more but I am proud to say that I was your classmate then. Rest in peace, sweet girl.
