Diane Pumarlo Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers from May 30 to May 31, 2016.
Diane Tauer Pumarlo, 74, of Red Wing, died suddenly Friday, May 27, 2016, at Mayo Clinic Hospital-Saint Marys Campus.

She was born July 10, 1941, in Morgan, to Russel and Lorraine (Menk) Albrecht, and graduated from high school there in 1959. On Aug. 24, 1963, she was united in marriage to Duane "Dewey" Tauer, and they made their home in Red Wing. Bringing three sports-minded boys into the world led Diane to being a willing spectator at countless games, washing what had to seem like thousands of dirty uniforms, and tolerating the occasional broken window from an errant throw or solid hit.

During the rare instances when motherly duties were put on hold, she enjoyed tending to her many plants, playing bridge with Dewey and other couples, or simply relaxing to her favorite music. Dewey died on July 24, 1985. Diane had worked at Interstate Medical Center, Central Research Laboratories, Vaillant Family Dental and Malmquist Home Furnishings, where she had been employed for 30 years until her retirement.

On Nov. 12, 1988, she married Jim Pumarlo. Together the two of them enjoyed being outdoors with many memories, exploring Frontenac State Park and taking annual summer trips to spend time with special friends on Rainy Lake in International Falls. Diane also enjoyed picnics, going on walks, painting, watching her "programs," and movies, golfing, all kinds of music and taking pictures. Her dedication and love for her grandchildren was evident in her attendance and cheering at their many school and sporting events. Her family will always remember her delectable cooking, her scrumptious chocolate chip cookies, her insistence on always getting that "special photo" taken whenever they got together, and her simple enjoyment of pizza with a glass of red wine. She was a selfless and giving person and was always there to give support to family and friends.

She will be dearly missed by her husband, Jim of Red Wing; three sons, Jay (Jenny) Tauer of Rosemount, John (Mary) Tauer of Inver Grove Heights and Corey (Holly) Tauer of Red Wing; five grandchildren, Alex, Teddy, Jake, Cassie and Anna; two sisters, Faye (Wilt) Berger of Golden Valley and Deb (Richard) Scheffler of Morton; mother-in-law, Betty Pumarlo of Brooklyn Center; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her first husband, Duane; mother and father in-law, Adeline and Norbert Tauer; and a sister, Mary Jane Johnson.

Mass of Resurrection will be 11 a.m. Thursday at the Church of St. Joseph. Officiating will be Father Greg Skrypek, who also performed the ceremony for her marriage to Jim. Burial will be at Oakwood Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. Wednesday at Mahn Family Funeral Home, Bodelson-Mahn Chapel, and for one hour prior to the service at the church.

Memorials are preferred to Red Wing Youth Baseball Association or rheumatoid arthritis research.
