Donald Anderson Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Oct. 30, 2023.
Donald E. Anderson, passed away on October 27, 2023, in Lynn, Massachusetts, at the age of 70. Don was born on July 16, 1953, in Somerville, Massachusetts, and was the son of Donald and L. Claire Anderson. He is preceded in death by his brother, William "Bill" Anderson.

Donnie, as he was affectionately called, fought a valiant battle against cancer for five years. Despite his illness, he remained a man with a big heart and a strong spirit. Don was always willing to lend a helping hand, whether it was providing a ride to the airport, tackling household chores, or playing music for friends' parties or charitable causes.

Music was Don's true passion from childhood, and he excelled as a bass guitarist. He was an active member of his band, Good To Go, until his illness progressed in recent months. Don also enjoyed driving for Uber and Lyft, proudly boasting a 5-star rating. He relished the opportunity to meet people from different states and share his knowledge of the Boston area's points of interest. Additionally, Don cherished his trips to Ireland and Nashville with his wife, Gail, family, and friends.

Beyond his musical pursuits, Don participated in the Peabody Elks golf league and bowling team for many years. However, his greatest joy came from being a devoted family man. He took immense pride in his children's accomplishments and cherished the time spent with his siblings, Claire Conlan and Eric Anderson.

Don is survived by his loving wife, Gail (Robinson), his sons Sean and Riley, his daughter Marissa Greene, and his grandchildren Aurora, Isaiah, and A.J. The family would like to express their gratitude to All Care VNA and CareDimensions for their exceptional compassionate care and kindness.

Don attended Somerville High School, graduating in 1972. Following his education, he proudly served in the Army. After his military service, Don began a successful career as a technician at MIT, where he dedicated 31 years of his life.

In his free time, Don enjoyed golfing and renovating his home, both of which brought him immense joy and fulfillment.

A private memorial service will be held on November 1, 2023, to honor and celebrate the life of Donald Edwin Anderson. May his memory live on in the hearts of all those who knew and loved him.

Wow, my first memory of Don! I knew who he was but the first night we "hung" out was 47 years ago. Chuck & I went with him while he played at the Webrook. As always, the music was great but I remember the most about that night was it the last time I drank a beer! He & Gail we´re our 3rd floor tenants at Hillside and that´s where some GREAT memories were made. Rock on Don, you are already missed

My first memory of Donnie was in Somerville at a party on his birthday 41 years ago! Then my first date with Charlie at Donnie´s 29th birthday. From living together at Hillside, camping as a big group, & going to see him play. Practicing in our basement. The many cookouts, bands and get togethers over the years. Donnie always had a smile, a chuckle and a love for music, his beautiful wife and family! He was bigger than life! May he rest in peace and be playing music for the angels! Forever in our hearts. -Cheryl Harvey

I have so many memories of Donnie. 50 yrs of friendship, working together at the waterbed store in Woburn, playing music at clubs, colleges and Ski areas. Camping at the Conways big parties back in the 80's and 90's and most recently see each other at our accomplished old timers dinners a few times a year to keep up. Don was always bigger than life. God Bless. Jim &Terry
