So sorry to hear of Mr. Bonevich's passing. He was my art teacher and I really respected him even when he made me write "I will not chew gum in class" 500 times.

Everyone has that first mentor, that first person to click on the light and open a whole new world to us. Don Bonevich was mine. A hipster with a goatee who ran our high school art class like a workshop with fellow artists. He let us actually grade ourselves. I know. What? Do I DARE give myself an A? Most of us kids got to be on our local tv kid show, Channel 3 Clubhouse, at least once in our childhoods, but somehow never put 2 + 2 together that Mr Bonevich was the man behind the puppets on the show. He was also a very fine actor with a great following in southwestern Michigan, playing Don Quixote in Man of La Mancha among many others. When I caught up with him a few years ago, I asked him why he never pursued Broadway or film. He said his wife didn't like big cities. And then he said, and you know, I have had the greatest experience an actor can have I know I can move an audience. And that's a most extraordinarily satisfying thing. Rest in peace, Don Bonevich. To me, you were the greatest.

My deepest condolences Ann. It has been decades since we worked together at Michigan National Bank.
You always had a big smile when you talked about Don. I hope that it is the same as you honor his memory.

I remember a good and kind man who left an indelible favorable impression on more young lives than he would ever know. Rest peacefully, Sir.

Hi, Ann..one of my fondest memories of Don was when you, Don and George and myself attending a party....the song Rockin Robin came on the radio and Don and I took to the dance floor. He was the only one that actually could jitterbug like I did...George never learned! Whenever Rockin Robin comes on the air, I think of him. Kathy McMahon

One of my very favorite teachers at Portage Northern Hugh School! I wonder if he knows how many young men and women he influenced? Best wishes to the family, he will be missed and remembered! Valerie Peterson McGee, class of 1976.
